Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

This week, Year 3 have been learning all about newspaper reports. We considered writing with a formal tone, adding detail for the reader, and including quotations to bring dimension to our writing. We planned our reports, practised reporting in the style of TV news and then wrote our own newspaper reports on the theme of fairy-tale crimes. Take a look!

The Date Project

The idea and concept was simple, to raise funds for the Al-Huda Bakery in Syria by selling a box of the finest Medjool dates for £10 during Ramadan.

Each box sold raised funds for fifty loaves of bread for a Syrian family. The Date Project is a initiative started and run by volunteers with 100% of profits going to charity.

In the first year of the project, 100,000 loaves of bread were distributed, and in 2016 a phenomenal 3.5 million loaves of bread were produced as a result of this initiative.

For Ramadan 2017, Palestine was added with a beautifully designed box in Palestinian colors being sold as the perfect gift nationwide.

We are supporting The Date Project by selling dates on our school yard next week for £10 per tin. These will be available to buy after school from the PTA members. For more information visit https://thedateproject.org

Science Dress Up Day 16th March

Dear parents and carers,

Next week we will be celebrating British Science Week. On Wednesday 16th March, we have planned a fun filled day so children can engage in a number of activities that build skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and enquiry. Please follow the Sway page if you would like some ideas on how to continue this learning at home. As part of the excitement, we are asking all children to dress up on Wednesday as something related to science. Again, please continue scrolling for costume ideas you can easily create at home.

If you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher.

Please click here to view all the information about science week

Many thanks,

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have been reading our new story 'Wake up farm!' We have been using a variety of materials to make different animals that live on a farm. In maths we have been singing number songs using the props. This has helped us practice counting to 5 and taking numbers away.  The sun has been shining this week so we have enjoyed exploring in our outdoor area going on a mini beast hunt, completing the obstacle course and role playing with the small world animals. We can't wait for next week where we will celebrate British Science week!

Comic Relief 18th March

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Friday 18th March we are taking part in Red Nose Day for the charity Comic Relief.

Children will be able to come to school wearing a Superhero themed costume. This could be one bought in the shops, or made at home. A Superhero could be one seen in a film e.g. Batman but a Superhero could also be a local hero e.g. a nurse, doctor or firefighter.

If children want to take part in Red Nose Day and dress up, they will need to donate £1.

Red Noses will be going on sale starting from Monday 14th March.  Each Red Nose costs £1.50 and the children will be able to buy them from their classroom.

The PTA are also selling sweet cones.  Children will need to pre-order and pay £1 to their class teacher before Friday 11th March.

All money raised will go to Comic Relief.

Many thanks for your continued support

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

This week we celebrated World Book Day and engaged in a number of fun activities celebrating our love for reading and books. In Y4, our theme was twisted fairy tales and we particularly enjoyed reading a hilarious, twisted version of Little Red Riding Hood. On Wednesday, we put our D.T. skills to good use and made part of our costumes focussing on an adjective that would describe our character. Finally, on Thursday we created 'Reading Rivers' which was a creative way to think about our reading journey. We loved sharing our work with the Y3s and talking about books with them.

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

This week at High Hazels, we celebrated our love and passion for reading during World Book Day! In year 3, pupils came dressed up as their favourite twisted fairy-tale characters, designed, and made a costume or mask, and created a Reading River illustrating their reading journey throughout the years. It was so much fun. and everyone looked amazing

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have been reading the story ‘Chicken Licken’. The children have continued to make their own farm animals using a variety of media and materials. We have explored in our outdoor area using the water wall to transport water in different containers, made mud pie in the mud kitchen and rode the bikes around the track. We have added numbers to our bikes so we have been matching the bikes to their correct number at tidy up time. We have got really good at doing this! On Thursday we celebrated world book day- twisted fairy tales. We dressed up as characters from different stories, read lots of fairy tale stories and took part in lots of story themed activities. It has been a busy week! We can’t wait for next week where we will start our new story ‘Wake up Farm!’

Change of Start & Collections Times for Pupils - Starting Monday 7th March

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that we are making some changes to our start and end of day procedures.  The following changes will begin on Monday 7th March 2022.

Drop off Procedures:

  • Drop your child off at the gate (or FS2 classroom doors) at the above time.
  • Children can walk straight into school.  Members of staff will be positioned throughout school to support.

Pick up Procedures:

  • Arrive at the correct gate for the end-of-day time.
  • Go to your child’s year group area and wait behind the cones/tape.  Please do not approach your child.
  • Your child’s class teacher will send your child to you.  Please then leave the playground.

It is vital that your child is on time every morning, for your child to maximise on their learning times.  They must be at school at 8:40am (or 8:30am in nursery) ready for the gates to open. All learning will start promptly at 8:50am.

Please ensure that you collect your child on time at the end of the day.  The gates will close at 3:25pm. Late collection of your child not only has a negative impact on their well-being but also means that staff are not able to use their directed time effectively.

We appreciate your continued support and thank you for your cooperation.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Maqsood-Shah
