Lantern Parade
High Hazels Academy helped light up the community when it staged its annual lantern parade on Monday (5th November).
Attended by hundreds including pupils, parents and people from across Darnall, the event saw the streets come alive with music, dance and colour.
The amazing creations included four fantastic figureheads representing the schools’ houses - Dragon, Phoenix, Unicorn and Griffin – all of which led the parade.
Students from fellow United Learning school Sheffield Park Academy joined in with dance routines, whilst the academy’s own choir and a local samba band helped provide the music. Also lending their support to the event were local businesses Cineworld, Hollywood Bowl, Jump Inc, Monkey Buziness, Ice Sheffield and SIV, who donated prizes for the parade.
Commented High Hazels Academy’s Headteacher Mrs Asma Maqsood-Shah:
“High Hazels Academy really is a school at the heart of its community and our annual lantern parade is a fantastic example of that, bringing people from across Darnall together for a wonderful evening of celebration.
“It’s also the ideal opportunity for the children to showcase their creative talents through the wonderful lanterns they create. We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part and lent their support – see you next year!”
