Thank you for considering a career with High Hazels Academy.

Every day, one of the great pleasures of coming to work is spending time with our children. I know it is easy for teachers to say that their pupils inspire them but at High Hazels they really do. Many speak more than one language; they are bright, curious, well behaved and keen to learn.

As a Headteacher, I am fortunate to have a team of committed, skilled and supportive colleagues which means that our school is a very welcoming environment in which to develop professionally.

Our ambition for the ‘best in everyone’ drives everything we do here. We recognise that a great primary education is essential to give our pupils the very best opportunities in their future lives.

At High Hazels, learning is relevant, purposeful, rich in experience and inclusive.

We are creating a harmonious community of learners where we value the rich and diverse cultural heritage of every individual and celebrate the diverse achievements of our children, staff and families.

Reading about us will only give you part of the story – come and see what we are doing here at High Hazels for yourself.

High Hazels was formed in January 2015, bringing together Greenlands Nursery Infant School and Greenlands Junior Schools.

Situated in a delightful Victorian building in the heart of Darnall, the school serves a vibrant and diverse community of learners.

The academy is increasingly popular among local families and is improving at pace – the Nursery Infant School secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement prior to conversion in September 2014 – and is striving to deliver outstanding primary provision for this area of Sheffield.

As part of a cluster of United Learning academies in the city, the school benefits from high-quality professional development, collaborative working practices and career opportunities.

Many pupils continue their education at United Learning’s Sheffield Park Academy and within this cluster of schools the Group is always keen to provide shared opportunities for pupils and staff alike as part of its commitment to deliver excellent education that helps equip young people for successful and enjoyable lives.

Our Values

At High Hazels we embrace our mission to bring out the ‘best in everyone’. This means that:

  • We are ambitious for every child
  • We place the best outcomes for children at the heart of everything we do
  • The unique worth of every child is championed
  • Every child is included – we recognise and strive to meet the needs of every learner
  • We expect the highest quality of teaching for every pupil
  • We aim to grow the leaders of the future; encouraging resilience, determination and responsibility
  • We provide a seamless learning journey from 3-11 for our pupils
  • Every family receives the very best support and advice as a partner in learning
  • Every child matters and every day counts
  • We continually evaluate and improve our provision to ensure it is the best it can be.

I joined High Hazels Academy two years ago through the Teach First programme and have just started my RQT year. From my first day I felt welcomed and supported by all members of staff and I am being given the opportunity to learn from some incredible teachers and leaders.

The school has a clear vision and the leadership team are committed to ensuring that our children receive the best possible education by building a strong team who are equally dedicated. We are provided with excellent professional development opportunities and encouraged to pursue our interests and passions within our roles.

Lastly, but most importantly, our fantastic children make High Hazels an extremely exciting and rewarding place to work. They are wonderfully creative and engaging and are a delight to teach. It is a pleasure to watch them thrive in this environment.”

Laura Field, Teacher

Working at High Hazels Academy is enjoyable, fulfilling and positively challenging. The Senior Leadership Team provide a nurturing and caring environment for both pupils and staff and constantly strive to improve the outcomes for children. High Hazels Academy is a truly special place and really does strive for the ‘best in everyone’.

Bethan Cope, Teacher

I really love imaginative writing. When I get stuck I use the working wall and my teacher gives me lots of ideas. When asked about her target she explained what an adverbial phrase was and that she needs to use them in her writing.

Maysarah, Year 6

I feel a bit weird when I am writing, but if it's good Miss shares it with the class. I like that. I enjoy doing the text with actions.

Athiya, Year 4

I get excited when it's writing. When I get stuck I put my hand up and she (my teacher) helps me. She gives me lots of ideas.

Lyba, Year 3

I like writing best of all.

Fatima, Year 4

I like to share ideas. I enjoy stories, many types of stories. I improve my work through green pen.

Sunnah, Year 5
