The PTA is a new organisation of parents and staff. Its role is to encourage closer links between home and school. Fundraising events and social times provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together and raise much needed funds for those little extras which enhance the work we do in school with all of the children.
It has already made a fabulous contribution to the life of our school.
How is our PTA organised?
All parents/carers and teachers are automatically members of the PTA. Our PTA also has an organising committee which meets regularly to agree what kind of events to host and how to spend the money that gets raised. Fatima Khan is the named member of staff who facilitates these meetings and members of school leadership also attend. Meetings are held in the Woodlands Community Hub.
The PTA committee usually meet once a month and sets up smaller working groups to organise individual events.
How is money raised?
Like most PTAs, ours raises money through events. They try to hold one main event each school term – for example, a fair in the winter, a cake sale in the spring, and a summer fair. Other PTA events include school bake sales, the lantern display and many more. They’re always looking for new fundraising ideas. The PTA are having a bag sale on 15th July at 2.30pm on the Junior Yard
How is money spent?
Funds raised by the PTA are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting.
The PTA committee works with school leaders to decide how to spend PTA funds. Things like playground equipment, contributions to school trips and smaller classroom or playtime equipment are currently on our list of requests!
How can I be involved in our PTA?
There are many different ways you can help with the PTA, whether you have lots of time to offer or not.
Some of the roles are time-consuming, although also rewarding. If you can’t commit to a big job, look out for things you can do less frequently (e.g. running a stall at the lantern festival baking for a cake sale). And you can always support PTA events by simply turning up.
I do hope that you will consider taking part!
