~High Hazels Academy pupils and staff go to town for World Book Day~
Maleficent, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood were just some of the incredible characters making an appearance at High Hazels Academy for World Book Day.
The event, which took place on Thursday 7th March, saw pupils and staff at the Sheffield based primary school dressing up as some of their favourite literary characters.
Everyone dressing up also made a £1 donation, helping to raise £120 which will be used to buy more books for the school.
Commented Headteacher Mrs Asma Maqsood-Shah:
“We always look forward to World Book Day and this year, students and staff really excelled themselves. Initiatives such as this also form an important part of our commitment to provide our children with an Education with Character - an education which introduces them to new experiences, helping to broaden their horizons.”
EDITORS’ NOTES
EDUCATION WITH CHARACTER
United Learning schools believe that there is more to an excellent education than solely academic success. They therefore aim to develop character, compassion and service in their pupils. United Learning calls this Education with Character, #EducationwithCharacter.
WORLD BOOK DAY
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and, most importantly, is a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. This is the 22nd year there has been a World Book Day, with 7th March 2019 seeing children of all ages coming together to appreciate reading.
