This term Acorns have been focusing on the topic of ‘Senses’. This involved taking part in activities and looking at books related to the topic such as ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar and ‘We all go travelling by’.

We have focused on the 5 senses which are ‘touch, taste, smell, hear and the sense of sight. This involved exploring all different textures from rice/lentils, cornflour, Jelly bath and shaving foam, the children were encouraged to describe the different textures. During our taste week we had the opportunity to taste different fruits from the story such as strawberries, oranges, pears, pineapple and mango, also this week we celebrated ‘World Food Day’ which we tasted spring rolls and noodles. for listening we made shakers so we could listen to all the different sounds that rice, pasta and bells make. In the story area we focused on puppets, the children were able to make their own stories using the catapillar story resources. Next half term we will focus on the topic of ‘Lifecycles and Growing.

World Book Day - 5th March 2020

Dear Families,

On Thursday 5th March 2020 we will be celebrating World Book Day. This is a day where children throughout the world will celebrate their favourite authors and books.

To celebrate this day in school we are asking that children dress up as a character from one of their favourite characters from their class books. If children choose to dress up, we are asking that they donate £1, which will then be used to buy new books for their book corners. If a whole class come dress-up then they get 2500 class points.

We would really like children to make their own costumes and we will be looking for the most creative costume. Any children who make their own costume will win a house point ball for their house.

Here are some websites to help you create a great world book day outfit.

Throughout the day, children will be taking part in activities based on the joy a book brings.  This is a special day where all around the word can share their favourite stories.  Your child may also bring in their favourite story to share with their class this could be as a reading a book, reading their own story or telling a story aloud from their family.

If any parents would like to tell a story in their home language to the children, please let your child’s class teacher know.

Thank you

Mrs Hodgkins

We have been focusing on our fine motor skills and we have been threading with laces and leaves, the children were shown how to do this activity and they managed to do the same without any adult help.
