Its Week 2 - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

This week in nursery we have continued our learning all about Farm Animals! We have been looking at a variety of books to look at pictures of farm animals and even comparing different kinds of chickens after we made them! In the creative area we have been making animals and even a farm house and farm yard! In the writing area we have been looking at the story 'Oh Dear' and what Buster does at the farm. Some of us have been drawing our favorite farm animals and even writing our own books with the story! What a fantastic week about all different kinds of farm animals.

You could have a go at singing 'Old McDonald had a farm' at home!

Parent's Evening Consultations

Dear Parent/Carer

To build on the success of our last term’s online Parent Teacher Consultation meetings, we will be holding an online virtual parent consultation meeting via School Cloud. These will take place on 6th-7th of July for FS2-Y6 pupils and for nursery children 7th & 9th July. This allows you to choose your own appointment time. Once you have booked your appointment you will receive a confirmation email.

Appointments can be made from today at 4pm and will close on Wednesday 7th July. Should you wish to make any changes after this date please contact the school office.

To support you with using this relatively new system of booking we have attached a short video and crib sheet, which you can access via this link here https://vimeo.com/473882995 You can also access this information on our school website https://www.highhazelsacademy.org.uk/parents-and-community/school-cloud-parents-evening

Please visit https://highhazels.schoolcloud.co.uk to book your appointments. Login with the following information:

  • Your unique parent Login Code
  • Your child’s date of birth

If you have more than one child in school, one date of birth will give you access to book appointments for all of your children in school.

Please see the list below of the browser versions you will need to use on your device in order to log into School Cloud for your video parents evening appointment:

Mini Zoo Visit in School - 30th June

Dear Parent / Carer,

As part of our topic on ‘Animals’ this half term we have arranged an animal experience for Nursery children.

On Wednesday 30th June  we have invited ‘Leanimals Mobile Zoo’  to visit us with a range of animals including pets, lizards and birds to support our understanding of different kinds of animals. To help us fund this visit we are asking for a contribution of £3.00 to be payable with the Parent Mail app which will include a photo of your child with an animal .

The company and the school have put a detailed risk assessment to ensure all safety measures are in place and in line with government guidelines.

In the meantime why not visit their website with your child at

https://www.eventsense.co.uk/member/leanimals-mobile-zoo or check their Facebook page!

Many thanks for your continued support

Its Week 1 - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

We have been learning all about farm animals this week for our new topic all about animals! We have been reading the book 'Oh Dear' and acting it out with our friends. In our creative activities we have been using a variety of media to make different animals - even using our whole hands in paint! It was so much fun and some of us thought the paint was ' cold' and 'wet'. We have been building some tall towers in the blocks and trying to make them steady buildings.

You can watch the story of 'Oh Dear' here and learn some makaton for animals just like in nursery! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDKd3nuAZxk

Singing songs is a great way to learn new words - you can sing some song all about animals here!

10 Day Active Challenge 14th June - 25th June

Dear Parents/Carers

Our school will be taking part in the 10 day Active Travel Challenge starting on Monday 14th and finishing on Friday 25rd June 2021.

The challenge is for pupils & their families to choose an active way of getting to school over the 10 day period. During the challenge each classroom will have a wall chart on which pupils who have travelled actively will record their journey. Those pupils with 10 stickers on the chart at the end of the 10 day challenge will be awarded a prize.

Walking, cycling, skating, scooting and park & stride are all active ways of travelling and we hope by taking part in the challenge it will:

  • Improve health & wellbeing of our pupils & their families
  • Encourage pupils and families to be more active
  • Reduce congestion and parking problems around our school
  • Improve air quality around school
  • Promote active travel for the journey to school and for families to continue to do this after the challenge!

Summer Term Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had another busy half term packed with events and successes, including our most recent Eid-ul-Fitr parties. We have made fantastic gains in learning with all our pupils regardless of their starting point. I have been particularly impressed with our pupils’ strong and positive behaviours for learning and determination to do well in all their learning. This half term the staff have run 26 different clubs free to all our pupils across the school. These extra-curricular activities included: arts, sports, music, cooking, funky fingers, and mindfulness to name a few. We will be running a new range of after school clubs again next half term. Please continue to sign up your child/ren for these clubs as they play an integral part in our offer of ‘Education with Character’.

I am really looking forward to next half term and to having all our pupils back in school. The final half term of the academic year is always packed with events celebrating the successes of our pupils amongst other events. Teachers will be holding another round of parent consultation meeting to share your child/ren’s progress over the year. Our admin and pastoral team will be able to support you in setting up those online meetings if you haven’t yet attended one.

Please click her to view our newsletter in full

Finally, thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.

We have finished Summer 1 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

This half term Nursery have been learning all about growing. We have planted our own cress seeds and talked about what plants need to grow. We were all very excited to keep checking on our seeds to look closely for any changes and it was very exciting when we saw them start to grow! In singing time, we have been learning some new songs all about growing and caterpillars - ask us to sing 'Little Arabella Miller or the very Hungry caterpillar' songs!

We have all been very lucky to have some baby caterpillars to look after. We have been learning to be kind and gentle when looking closely at them. It has been great to watch them eating all of their yummy food and getting bigger every day just like in the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We are excited to watch them spin a cocoon and turn into beautiful butterflies! Learning about growing has been a fantastic opportunity for us to record our ideas through writing, drawing, painting and making lots of different crafts using a variety of media. We have been working hard to recognise and copy our names at school and at home. We have also been learning all about counting and showing numbers, shapes and patterns.

What a busy term we have had together!
