During this Autumn half term, Acorns and Nursery have been learning about ‘Seasons’. Within this they have explored topics such as ‘Autumn’, ‘Day and Night’ animals and ‘Christmas’.
As part of the topic about Autumn and Day and Night animals, the children have enjoyed participating in exploring autumn colours, going on an autumn walk in the yard and making autumn pictures with leaves. We have read stories linked to the topic such as ‘Going on a bear hunt’ and ‘Owl babies’ and enjoyed joining in activities linked to the story. In literacy sessions we have practised sequencing the stories using ‘first, next and last’, looked at how to correctly hold and turn pages in books and wrote letters to the mother owl. During Maths sessions, we have learnt to recite and recognise numbers to 5, to match quantity to number and focused on activities based on the four basic shapes ‘square’, ‘rectangle’, ‘triangle’ and ‘circle’. We also enjoyed having a visit from the Owls and had the wonderful opportunity to hold and take a picture with the baby Owl.
During the topic of Christmas, we have enjoyed Christmas crafts which have included decorating and writing cards for family and friends, making snow penguin pictures and snowflakes on the creative table and dressing up like elves, wrapping presents for Santa. We look forward to our visit from Santa next week. From all of the children in Acorns and Nursery we wish you a very merry christmas and a happy new year!
