Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

This week in Reception we continued our learning on the topic ‘People who help us’, we have looked at some real life super heroes such as Rosa Parks and Winston Churchill. Our focus book in Literacy has been ‘Supertato’ which is all about a superhero potato who rescues his vegetables friends from the clutches of the evil pea. We have been using the technique of printing in the creative area to make our own supertato. We have built lairs in the construction area for the evil pea and designed our own superhero vegetables in the writing area. We have talked about what superpowers we might like to have and what we would use them for. In Maths we have been learning about the composition of the number 1,2 and 3 we have used different vegetables to represent the different ways you can make 1,2 and 3. We rounded off the week celebrating children in need where we all wore spots and enjoyed some Pudsey themed activities including dancing, colouring and making our own bookmarks.

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have started our new topic 'Polar Express'. We have been reading the story 'Lost and Found' and have been trying to remember what happens at different parts of the story. The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of 'Lost and Found' themed activities, including making a penguin out of 2D shapes, making a boat for the penguin using junk modelling and drawing and describing our favourite parts from the story. We can't wait for next week where we will learn about more Arctic animals!

Y3 Swimming Lessons at Ponds Forge

Dear Parent/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that children in Year 3 will be starting swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum on Tuesday 23rd November 2021. Pupils will attend school as normal on Tuesdays and will travel, supervised by school staff, via coach to the Ponds Forge Leisure Centre each week. The swimming sessions will run for 18 weeks until Tuesday 3rd May 2022 and will be taught by qualified swimming instructors. The sessions are fully funded by school, and as they are part of the curriculum, all children are expected to participate. If for any reason your child is unwell and unable to participate in a session, please speak to school staff.

For each lesson your child will need to come to school dressed in their swimwear (underneath their school uniform).

They will also need to bring the following:

  • A towel
  • A waterproof bag
  • A change of underwear

Please ensure you follow the guidance below:

  • Your child should not bring or wear any jewellery, including ear piercings. Taping over piercings is not acceptable and will mean your child cannot participate in a swimming session.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • The teacher will ensure any medication which has been shared with school is taken with the child’s group. If your child has a medical need such as asthma, this information has been shared with school and an inhaler has been provided.
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn each week. Please do not send your child in bikinis, shorts below the knee, heavy outdoor clothing or underwear.
  • If your child is required to wear a long sleeve top and leggings, these should be lightweight materials and worn underneath or on top of swimwear.
  • If your child requires goggles, these must be provided by you and you will need to inform your child’s class teacher prior to the first lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

We focused on the benefits of using flashbacks within narratives in our writing classes this week. Students concluded that they provide the reader with a lot of information that they might not have known, plus, they provide a little more entertainment.

We also did some role playing and drama with this new chapter of the book and it was a great way to learn to convey emotions. Keep up the great work, Y5!

Children in Need - Friday 19th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Friday 19th November it is Children in Need Day.

Children will be able to come to school wearing spots. This could be a spotty jumper, socks, or t-shirt. Some children have even made a spotty t-shirt before.

If children want to take part in Children in Need Day, please can children bring £1 into school on 19th November.

All money that the school raises will then be sent to Children in Need charity.

Many thanks

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have continued to read the ‘Owl babies’ book and really got to know the characters and what happens in each part the story. The children have enjoyed acting out the story with props and drawing pictures of their favourite part. On Thursday we learnt about ‘Rememberance Day’ and made poppy pictures to take home to share and talk about with our families. The children have also been enjoying playing and learning in our outdoor area climbing on the climbing frame, riding the bikes and helping to sweep the autumn leaves. We can’t wait for next week when we start a new story about artic animals!
