Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day - Tuesday 7th June

Dear Parents/Carers

On Tuesday 7th June 2022 we will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. This is our day to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary of taking the throne.

To celebrate this day in school we are asking that children dress up as a King or Queen. We would really like children to make their own costumes and we will be looking for the most creative costume.

Here are some websites to help you create a great outfit.

Throughout the day, children will be taking part in activities celebrating our Queen such as a tea party, creating their own crowns and a corgi treasure hunt. We hope the children enjoy this day and come together to celebrate this special occasion.

Thank you for your continued support

Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have continued to learn more sounds with Fred the frog! We have learnt the sound ‘S’- slither down the snake and ‘d’- down the dinosaurs body up his tall neck and down to his feet. The children have been practising saying, spotting and writing the sounds independently. They have even been completing their phonics homework and been bringing it back to school to show the teachers! We have also been reading the gingerbread man story and remembering what characters are in the story. The children have been painting pictures of the gingerbread man, cutting them out with playdough and retelling the story using props. We can’t wait for next week when we will bake our own gingerbread man and take it home to eat!

This week in nursery we have been playing and learning outside. The children have been so busy cooking in the mud kitchen, exploring the water area and drawing pictures. In phonics Fred the frog has taught us a new sound! 'M' - Maisie mountain mountain. The children have been practising drawing the sound and spotting it around nursery. It has been a lovely week learning together with our friends!

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

Dear Parents,

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

We wanted to update you on progress with appointing a successor to Mrs Maqsood-Shah as Principal of the academy.

The recruitment process is, unfortunately, taking longer than we had hoped as we are very keen to choose a candidate with the appropriate mix of skills and experience to suit the school and its community.

Whilst we continue with the process, Mr Paul Graham, who is Principal of our Abbey Hey Primary Academy in Gorton, Manchester and knows High Hazels well, will be working with the Senior Leadership Team to support the successful running of the school. Mr Graham is a highly experienced headteacher and is looking forward to spending time at High Hazels. He will be liaising with Mrs Maqsood-Shah and the Vice Principals this term so that he is fully involved with the planning for the next academic year.

We will update you on the recruitment process for a permanent Principal when a successful appointment is made.

Yours sincerely

Tanya Hughes

Eid Parties & Non Uniform Day - Friday 6th May

Dear Parents/Carers

I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to all our families who will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

As a whole school, we will be having Eid parties on Friday, 6th May 2022.  As done previously, we are asking parents/carers for a £1 contribution per child to be brought into class.  The money will be used to purchase party food and drink for all the children.

Please note that the 6th May will also be a non-uniform day for all the children.

As always, if your child has any allergies then please ensure their medical records are up to date in the office.

Thank you for your continued support

This week we have welcomed new friends into nursery and helped them settle in by showing them all our toys and playing with them. We have continued to read ‘The three little pigs’ story and sequence the story using props. We have also been making pig masks in the creative area, collaging, and drawing other characters from the story. The children have enjoyed playing and learning in our outdoor area going on mini beast hunts, cooking in the mud kitchen, playing ball games and riding our brand new bikes and scooters! We can’t wait for next week where we will start our new story ‘Little Red Riding hood’.

Its week 1 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to school after the Easter holidays. The children have enjoyed seeing their friends and telling everyone what they have done in the holiday. We have started our new theme ‘Once Upon a Time’ where we will be learning about fairy-tale stories. This week have started to read ‘The three little pigs’, the children have enjoyed listening to the story and sequencing the events that happen. They have built their own houses using bricks, sticks and straw! The children have then acted out the story with props, pretending the blow the houses down like the big bad wolf! It has been a busy week, we are excited for next week where we will welcome some new friends into nursery!

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Nursery…………………….

What a busy, fun filled half term we have had in nursery! We have been learning all about animals as our theme was ‘On the Farm’. We have made lots of farm animals using a range of different materials including junk modelling, painting, drawing and collaging. In maths we have sorted animals into groups of size, matched animals to picture cards, sang number songs using the props. This helped us practice counting to 5 and taking numbers away.  During this half term we celebrated world book day- twisted fairy tales. We dressed up as characters from different stories, read lots of fairy tale stories and took part in lots of story themed activities. It was also British Science Week, where we talked about what Science is and took part in activities. We particularly enjoyed the paint blowing where we used straws to blow paint across the paper which made lovely marks! We have also been talking about the weather as we started the term in Winter and moved into Spring. The children talked about how they didn’t need their hats and scarves anymore as it was getting warmer. We looked at different signs of Spring and spotted them in the garden, the children could see buds on flowers, daffodils and the sun shining. We also looked at lambs, chicks and even had our own caterpillars! We were so happy to have them to look after and watch them grow into butterflies! As the weather got warmer, we enjoyed exploring in our outdoor area using the water wall to transport water in different containers, made mud pie in the mud kitchen, rode the bikes around the track, went on mini beast hunts, completed the obstacle courses and role played with the small world animals. We have talked about caring for living things and looking after the natural environment. The children have been watering the flowers every day to help them grow. We also planted some seeds in the large planters and talked about how they will grow. Towards the end of the term, we read the story ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children learnt a lesson from the story about helping others and being kind to each other. Throughout this term we have done lots of circle times about being kind to each other, sharing and looking after our nursery. We are so excited for next term where we will have new friends to play with at nursery and start our new learning on fairy-tale stories! Don’t forget to ask us about our learning at home!

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Nursery…………………….
