Autumn Term Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

This is my last message to you of 2020. What a year it has been! We have had many successes despite all the challenges of the pandemic and for this I am very grateful to all our amazing staff and families of High Hazels Academy.

As we come to the end of autumn term, I am filled with pride to be part of such a fantastic team and learning communities. We have managed to maintain our high standards of teaching and learning for all pupils, support all our vulnerable families, and kept school open for learners. There is so much to celebrate this term. Please do read through the rest of the newsletter to find out about the experiences your child/ren has had thus far. I hope that you like our new format of the newsletter too.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our staff, pupils and community a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a restful break. Please stay safe during the festive period. I look forward to working with you all again in January 2021.

Kind regards

Autumn Term Newsletter

We have finished Autumn 2 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

What a busy term we have had in Nursery! We have been learning all about celebrations of light and made our own diva lamps and fireworks! We used lots of new words to describe them such as bright and sparkly. We have also been looking at seasonal changes in the outdoor environment - we even used some leaves to make our very own owls to sit on the bench!

In the middle of this term we enjoyed a visit from some owls. We went into the hall and did our best listening and looking as we watched a flying demonstration. Some of us even had a turn at holding an owl on a special glove on our arm- we had to be very brave!

In the second part of the term we have been learning all about Christmas. We have enjoyed using a variety of materials to make different Christmas decorations and learnt all about shapes at the same time! We have also made Christmas biscuits and enjoyed listening to Christmas songs.

We have enjoyed all our new learning and experiences this term - make sure you ask us all about it!

Its Week 6 - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

This week in nursery we have been getting the classroom ready for Christmas. We have made decorations for our Christmas tree. We have used the play dough to make Christmas trees and we have all made our own Christmas cards to take home next week. We have also been practicing singing our favourite festive songs. We love playing the bells in time to jingle bells.

Its Week 5 - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

This week in nursery we have been learning all about pets. We have made cats, dogs and fish using lots of different materials in our workshop area. We really enjoyed painting animals too. We have learnt to name lots of pets and have even learnt a new song about visiting a pet shop. We also had an exciting delivery in a box and did lots of talking about what we thought was inside. It was our Christmas Tree! We have enjoyed making a start on decorating it with different shapes.

Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Nursery..............

In nursery this week we have had a very exciting visit from some owls! We went all the way into the junior hall to watch the beautiful birds fly, eat and even make owl noises for us! We learnt lots of interesting facts about owls such as they sleep on one leg! We had great fun trying to close our eyes and stand on one leg. We had the opportunity to have a turn at wearing a special glove on our arm and have an owl sit on it. It was very exciting to see them so close and we did lots of fantastic work after. Some of us had a go at using the computer to draw and owl, we made them out of play dough and even made some on the writing table! We have been doing lots of talking about our experiences and sharing our thoughts.

What a great week we have had and we cannot wait to show you the photos!

Bug Club information and guide for parents

Dear Parent or Carer,

Our school is using a reading system called Bug Club.  Please click here to view parents guide to access Bug Club

What is Bug Club?

Bug Club is a levelled reading scheme, which ensures that your child has access to books at their level. All of the books are available online and each child has their own personalised homepage.

Using Bug Club

To access Bug Club online then go to the website:

www.bugclub.co.uk

The school ID is nrsg

Each child will be allocated their own unique username and password. If your child loses theirs, please ask for a replacement.

Reading a book online

Your child is allocated a book according to their reading level. These books will appear in the ‘My Stuff’ area on their homepage. Throughout the books there are questions for your child to answer based on the book that they are reading. Teachers will be able to see your child’s response through the teacher site. To answer a question just click on the bug icon.

When your child has answered the questions in a book, they will earn coins. These coins can then be used to buy ‘a reward’ from the reward scheme.

Teachers will be able to allocate more books when your child is running low in their account.

How to help your child

  1. Find time to sit with your child so that you can share the online books with your child.
  2. Talk to your child about the book that they are reading. Look at the front cover and talk about what the book might be about.
  3. Listen to book together and help your child to follow the words. This can be done my clicking on the speaker icon.
  4. After listening to the book get the child to read the book to you.
  5. Re-read the book again if needed so that they can read the book fluently before moving on to the next book.
  6. Aim to read two books a week so that quality time can be spent reading each book.

Remember: books should be read more than once so that your child can become fluent readers.

If you need help

If you need any help with Bug Club, please ask your child’s class teacher.
