World Book Day - 5th March 2020

Dear Families,

On Thursday 5th March 2020 we will be celebrating World Book Day. This is a day where children throughout the world will celebrate their favourite authors and books.

To celebrate this day in school we are asking that children dress up as a character from one of their favourite characters from their class books. If children choose to dress up, we are asking that they donate £1, which will then be used to buy new books for their book corners. If a whole class come dress-up then they get 2500 class points.

We would really like children to make their own costumes and we will be looking for the most creative costume. Any children who make their own costume will win a house point ball for their house.

Here are some websites to help you create a great world book day outfit.

Throughout the day, children will be taking part in activities based on the joy a book brings.  This is a special day where all around the word can share their favourite stories.  Your child may also bring in their favourite story to share with their class this could be as a reading a book, reading their own story or telling a story aloud from their family.

If any parents would like to tell a story in their home language to the children, please let your child’s class teacher know.

Thank you

Mrs Hodgkins

Spring 1 Blog Week 6

This half term our theme has been ‘under the sea’. We have learnt so much about lots of different sea creatures. We have learnt facts about fish, sharks, turtles and more! With all our knew knowledge we made a fact file to stick in our literacy books. We wrote sentences about different creatures all by our self! In maths we have been learning numbers 5-10 using number blocks. We used the number blocks to add numbers together and write a number sentence. We have also learnt number bonds to 10 and matched numicon to numerals. As part of the ‘under the sea’ theme we got to go on a trip to ‘The Deep’ in Hull. On the trip we saw sharks, jelly fish and lots of other sea creatures. We also got to watch a diver feed a real shark!

Spring 1 Week 5 - Discussing The Deep Trip

This week in Reception we have enjoyed talking about our visit to The Deep. We have been learning about recounts and using time language to write our recount. We have thought about words we need to use for the past tense such as fed and sat and enjoyed writing our sentences. We have also been using numicon to make 10!
