Parent's Evening Consultations

Dear Parent/Carer

To build on the success of our last term’s online Parent Teacher Consultation meetings, we will be holding an online virtual parent consultation meeting via School Cloud. These will take place on 6th-7th of July for FS2-Y6 pupils and for nursery children 7th & 9th July. This allows you to choose your own appointment time. Once you have booked your appointment you will receive a confirmation email.

Appointments can be made from today at 4pm and will close on Wednesday 7th July. Should you wish to make any changes after this date please contact the school office.

To support you with using this relatively new system of booking we have attached a short video and crib sheet, which you can access via this link here https://vimeo.com/473882995 You can also access this information on our school website https://www.highhazelsacademy.org.uk/parents-and-community/school-cloud-parents-evening

10 Day Active Challenge 14th June - 25th June

Dear Parents/Carers

Our school will be taking part in the 10 day Active Travel Challenge starting on Monday 14th and finishing on Friday 25rd June 2021.

The challenge is for pupils & their families to choose an active way of getting to school over the 10 day period. During the challenge each classroom will have a wall chart on which pupils who have travelled actively will record their journey. Those pupils with 10 stickers on the chart at the end of the 10 day challenge will be awarded a prize.

Walking, cycling, skating, scooting and park & stride are all active ways of travelling and we hope by taking part in the challenge it will:

  • Improve health & wellbeing of our pupils & their families
  • Encourage pupils and families to be more active
  • Reduce congestion and parking problems around our school
  • Improve air quality around school
  • Promote active travel for the journey to school and for families to continue to do this after the challenge!

Its Week 1 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

We have all settled into the new term after a lovely break and we have enjoyed talking and hearing about all the fun things that we got up to in the holidays. In maths, we have been working hard to double amounts of objects using our doubling machine and learning how to double numbers within 20. We have started learning all about our new topic ‘Transport’ and we have been discussing all of the different modes of transport that we know. We have been reading the story ‘We All Go Travelling By’ and have been joining in, singing along to the words and acting out the story. We have written some fantastic sentences and made some brilliant story maps. We have also spent lots of time learning outside in the sun, watering the plants, building vehicles in the construction area and sailing boats in the water tray. We can’t wait to learn all about grouping and carrying on with our transport topic week.

Summer Term Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had another busy half term packed with events and successes, including our most recent Eid-ul-Fitr parties. We have made fantastic gains in learning with all our pupils regardless of their starting point. I have been particularly impressed with our pupils’ strong and positive behaviours for learning and determination to do well in all their learning. This half term the staff have run 26 different clubs free to all our pupils across the school. These extra-curricular activities included: arts, sports, music, cooking, funky fingers, and mindfulness to name a few. We will be running a new range of after school clubs again next half term. Please continue to sign up your child/ren for these clubs as they play an integral part in our offer of ‘Education with Character’.

I am really looking forward to next half term and to having all our pupils back in school. The final half term of the academic year is always packed with events celebrating the successes of our pupils amongst other events. Teachers will be holding another round of parent consultation meeting to share your child/ren’s progress over the year. Our admin and pastoral team will be able to support you in setting up those online meetings if you haven’t yet attended one.

Please click her to view our newsletter in full

Finally, thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.

We have finished Summer 1 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

We have had a busy half term filled with lots of exciting learning! We continued with our theme ‘Once Upon a Time’ where we read lots of different fairy tale stories. We particularly enjoyed reading and learning about the ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ story where we acted it out, made props and drew fantastic story maps. We started our mini topic ‘Growing’ where we learnt all about animal life cycles. We focused on the life cycle of a caterpillar, a frog and a chick. We even had caterpillars come to our class so we could feed them and watch them turn into beautiful butterflies! As well as this, we got to take care of two African land snails; we made sure we fed them, watered them and took care of them every day. We loved looking after them! In maths we have been focusing on numbers to 20, addition, subtraction and spatial reasoning. We have really enjoyed putting this learning into practise in our maths work books, where we have completed lots of tasks and activities. We have continued to learn new sounds in phonics everyday with help from Fred the Frog! He has helped us to use our ‘Fred Fingers’ to sound out words which helps us with our reading. We are looking forward to the next and final term of the year where we will be focusing on our ‘Transport’ and ‘Sun, Sea and Silhouette’ theme.

Its Week 5 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

We started our week off with a fantastic Eid party, both the children and teachers had a brilliant time dancing, playing party games and eating party food. In literacy we have continued our learning on life cycles, focussing on the life cycle of a frog. We have also enjoyed looking after our caterpillars, watching them grow and welcoming our new addition, two giant African land snails, Shelly and Cyrill. In maths we have been focussing on subtraction and changing the quantity by taking away. We have been getting creative making frog pictures and representing their life cycle using different media and materials. Next week we are looking forward to welcoming some chicks into our classrooms, as part of our life cycle topic.

Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

We have had an exciting week in FS2 with the arrival of our caterpillars, we have learnt all about the life cycle of a butterfly and discussed the parts of a caterpillar. We learnt some interesting facts about caterpillars and butterflies. Did you know caterpillars have 16 legs? We have been getting creative designing butterflies by exploring symmetry and making our own life cycle zig zag books.  We can’t wait to see them cocoon and emerge as beautiful butterflies. In maths we have been learning to hold a number in our head and count on in order to solve a simple addition equation. We continued our Eid preparations by making cards, creating Medhi patterns and talking about our Eid celebrations. It sounds like the children have had a good time, with their families and friends. We hope all our families have enjoyed their Eid celebrations.
