St George's Day - Friday 23rd April

Dear Parents/Carers

As part of our citizenship curriculum, we would like to mark the upcoming occasions of the Queen’s birthday and St George’s day on Friday 23rd April. Children can come to school on the day wearing their full school uniform as well as something extra which is red, white or blue. For example, a hair band, badge, socks in any of those colours.

Please note that we do not expect you to purchase anything specific for this event.

Many thanks for your continued support.

We have finished Spring 2 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

The FS2 children have amazed us with how well they have settled back into the school routine. They have enjoyed being back with their friends and teachers and exploring the classroom and outdoor area. We began by immersing ourselves in the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We wrote letters from Goldilocks to the three bears to apologise for eating the porridge, breaking the chair and sleeping in the bed. We ordered objects by size, used playdough to make the three bears and acted out the story with our friends. Then, we learnt all about the changes that occur in Spring and enjoyed planting, painting and searching for signs of Spring in the outdoor provision. To conclude our Literacy learning this half term, we have been learning about Easter. We listened to the Easter story, discussed how and why Christian’s celebrate Easter and have enjoyed lots of Easter crafts. In maths, we have practised recognising, counting and adding using numbers to 10 and have began to use the language of more and fewer to compare two groups of objects. We are looking forward to continuing our learning on ‘Once Upon a Time’ and to begin finding out lots of information about different life cycles in Summer 1!

Its Week 5 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

This week we have been reading the Easter story and discussing the different ways that Christians celebrate Easter. We have made hot cross buns with the playdough and built chicken coops in the construction area. We have also used our fine motor skills to collect eggs in an Easter basket and made Easter cards for our friends and families. As Spring has sprung, we have enjoyed being outside in the sunshine painting pictures on umbrellas, spotting signs of spring and going on egg hunts!

Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

This week FS2 have been learning about the different signs of Spring. We have enjoyed painting blossom trees, making chicks and discussing the changes that we are starting to see outside! As part of our learning on Spring, the children have also been planting flowers in our outdoor area. We’ve learnt all about how to look after them and can’t wait to watch them grow!

Virtual Parents Evening 30th & 31st March

Dear Parents

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic we have been unable to hold face to face parents evening meetings.  We have missed meeting parents, and we want to ensure that until we can meet parents face to face we have a virtual system to discuss pupils progress.

Therefore the school has introduced a new intuitive and easy to use online appointment booking system called school cloud. This allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and you will receive an email confirming your appointments.

School cloud allows parents to have a video consultation with their childs class teacher, and we are confident that parents will find this system simple and easy to use and we welcome any feedback.

We will hold our virtual parent evening meetings on Tuesday 30th March and Wednesday 31st March.  Parents will be sent a letter detailing all the information needed to make appointments, along with parents unique login code.  Nursery parents will be able to speak to Mrs Adlington on Wednesday 31st March

Please click here to access High Hazels Academy School Cloud Account

If you have any questions or queries please contact the main school office on 0114 2442189 or email enquiries@highhazelsacademy.org.uk.

Many thanks for your continued support

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Reception..............

The children have enjoyed settling back into school routine, seeing their friends and teachers. We have been learning all our phonics sounds, looking at numbers to 10 and enjoying focusing on our new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’. We also talked a lot about how our Mum’s help us and made Mother’s Day cards for them. The children also enjoyed exploring the outdoor area learning new skills with the P.E equipment.
