Summer 2 Week 4 - Fun Week

Spring 2 Week 2 - World Book Day

This week Y1 have finished their class book ‘Rapunzel’. The children gave a book review and described their favourite and most memorable part. They enjoyed creating a wanted poster for the witch. On Thursday 5th of March we celebrated World Book Day. The children and teachers came in dressed up as a character from one of their favourite books. The children talked about their favourite books and read different style of books. They did various activities such as creating an art piece which showed their imagination. They created book covers and comic style stories. The children enjoyed talking about who they came in as and why they chose that character. We also had parents and Y4 come in and read to us which was FUN!

Spring 2 Week 1 - Rapunzel

This week Y1 have been reading more of our book 'Rapunzel'. We have been focusing on what adjectives do or do not describe the witch. We then used these adjectives to create ambitious sentences.

World Book Day - 5th March 2020

Dear Families,

On Thursday 5th March 2020 we will be celebrating World Book Day. This is a day where children throughout the world will celebrate their favourite authors and books.

To celebrate this day in school we are asking that children dress up as a character from one of their favourite characters from their class books. If children choose to dress up, we are asking that they donate £1, which will then be used to buy new books for their book corners. If a whole class come dress-up then they get 2500 class points.

We would really like children to make their own costumes and we will be looking for the most creative costume. Any children who make their own costume will win a house point ball for their house.

Here are some websites to help you create a great world book day outfit.

Throughout the day, children will be taking part in activities based on the joy a book brings.  This is a special day where all around the word can share their favourite stories.  Your child may also bring in their favourite story to share with their class this could be as a reading a book, reading their own story or telling a story aloud from their family.

If any parents would like to tell a story in their home language to the children, please let your child’s class teacher know.

Thank you

Mrs Hodgkins

Spring 1 Blog Week 6

Y1 have finished their Spring 1 term on a high with their work focusing around being safe online. As it is ESafety week the children have been talking about how they can stay safe online and what technology they use at home and in school. As part of our learning we have been to the computer suite. The Y1’s really impressed their teachers at how well and safely they operated the computers. During these lessons the children created pieces of work using ‘Paint’ and wrote their names on the work to show ownership.

During this term we have been focusing on Castles. The children have gathered a wealth of knowledge about the different features of a Castle and the various forms of defence a Castle needs. This learning has allowed the children to design and write about what type of Castle they would like to have. We have also had some exciting texts in our reading lessons which have linked to our theme of learning. Our most recent book – Rapunzel has encouraged the children to make predictions about the characters and the story. The children have also had some experience publishing their writing and reading aloud to the rest of the year group.

Well done Y1 on a fantastic term!

Spring 1 Week 5 - Traction Man is Here

This week in Y1 we have innovated our class story 'Traction Man is Here'.  The children enjoyed reading their innovated stories in front of their  friends and teachers. They showed creativity in their writing and were boosting with confidence reading out loud.

Spring 1 Week 4 - Shapes

This week in Maths Y1 have been learning all about shape. We have described 2D and 3D shapes and used them to make patterns.

We have also been planning our own innovated version of the story 'Traction Man' and are excited to write these at the end of the week!

Spring 1 Week 3 - Ending Traction Man Story

This week  in Y1 we have been finishing reading 'Traction Man'. The children were excited to find out the end of our story. We spent one of our lessons recreating scenes from the story. We used our 'Traction Man' resources and equipment to immerse the children into their story telling.
