Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Y1..............

This week Y1 have enjoyed visiting the ICT Suite. We have been exploring technology and how we can use technology safely. The Y1's have had a go at turning their computers on, logging in and logging out. The children were so sensible in the computer room and made sure they were showing respect to their teachers and each other when listening to their instructions. Well done!

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y1..............

Y1 have been learning about Seasons in Science. We have been identifying the Seasons in a year and discussing what the weather is like. We have been talking about what clothes and objects we need during these different Seasons. The children then matched up these objects and worked with their friends to check their answers.

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

Y4 are really excited to be starting their new history unit - Exploring our Local History. We will be looking at how Sheffield and Darnall have changed over the years. So far, we have put the major changes since the 18th century onto a timeline. Children have really enjoyed seeing what their local area looked like in the past and how it has developed.

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y3..............

In Y3 this week we have been using our knowledge of rocks to create an information text. In writing we have been looking at the purpose and features of an information text. In maths we have been continuing our addition and subtractions, using different methods to solve problems. In reading and science we have been investigating light and experimented using torches and mirrors to see how light reflects from different surfaces. We have been using an atlas in geography to discover more about the UK and finding out about mountains, rivers and national parks. Y3 have also been enjoying their after school clubs this week doing sports, board games and learning to play the keyboard.

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y5..............

In reading this week, we have had a background knowledge day to explore what the word evacuation means and why so many children had to evacuate during the Second World War. We researched, how, when, where and why they were evacuated. We have been looking at the word evacuation as we are going to be exploring ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and the four siblings were evacuated to the countryside at the beginning of their adventures.

We used expanded noun phrases and had to say what we could see, hear and touch. All the Year 2 teachers are proud of how the children have improved with their writing since September.

Bug Club information and guide for parents

Dear Parent or Carer,

Our school is using a reading system called Bug Club.  Please click here to view parents guide to access Bug Club

What is Bug Club?

Bug Club is a levelled reading scheme, which ensures that your child has access to books at their level. All of the books are available online and each child has their own personalised homepage.

Using Bug Club

To access Bug Club online then go to the website:

www.bugclub.co.uk

The school ID is nrsg

Each child will be allocated their own unique username and password. If your child loses theirs, please ask for a replacement.

Reading a book online

Your child is allocated a book according to their reading level. These books will appear in the ‘My Stuff’ area on their homepage. Throughout the books there are questions for your child to answer based on the book that they are reading. Teachers will be able to see your child’s response through the teacher site. To answer a question just click on the bug icon.

When your child has answered the questions in a book, they will earn coins. These coins can then be used to buy ‘a reward’ from the reward scheme.

Teachers will be able to allocate more books when your child is running low in their account.

How to help your child

  1. Find time to sit with your child so that you can share the online books with your child.
  2. Talk to your child about the book that they are reading. Look at the front cover and talk about what the book might be about.
  3. Listen to book together and help your child to follow the words. This can be done my clicking on the speaker icon.
  4. After listening to the book get the child to read the book to you.
  5. Re-read the book again if needed so that they can read the book fluently before moving on to the next book.
  6. Aim to read two books a week so that quality time can be spent reading each book.

Remember: books should be read more than once so that your child can become fluent readers.

If you need help

If you need any help with Bug Club, please ask your child’s class teacher.
