Well done Y1 on a fantastic term and settling into Y1 so well. You have all done so well in settling into your new classes and adapting to the new Y1 routines.
We have really enjoyed reading a range of books such as ‘Beegu’ and ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’. We have been practicing our letter formation and writing skills by creating sentences about our stories and characters. The children are now getting more and more independent with their tasks.
In Maths we have been focusing on place value and learning all about our numbers within 20. We have been creating fact families and number bonds using these numbers and are getting much quicker at quick sums and number facts.
This term we have really enjoyed our Art block and learning all about Paul Klee. We have learnt about the skills of shapes, lines and colour and have created our very own Art pieces based on the Sheffield Town Hall. The teachers are very impressed with the precision and detail on their pictures.
In Geography we have been learning about our local area and the human and physical features we can see. The children have enjoyed creating their very own maps and following instructions such as forward, backwards and so on.
In Science we have been learning about Plants and Trees and finding out the parts and types of these plants. The children have been exploring the local area outside and finding leaves, sticks and fruit which help them identify the types of tree.
One of our main experiences this term was preparing for our Izzy Gizmo concert. We have been practising the songs and actions all term and this week went to the Sheffield Crucible. The children really enjoyed their trip and seeing the show.
We look forward to welcoming the children back for another term of learning!
