Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

Y4 are really excited to be starting their new history unit - Exploring our Local History. We will be looking at how Sheffield and Darnall have changed over the years. So far, we have put the major changes since the 18th century onto a timeline. Children have really enjoyed seeing what their local area looked like in the past and how it has developed.

Bug Club information and guide for parents

Dear Parent or Carer,

Our school is using a reading system called Bug Club.  Please click here to view parents guide to access Bug Club

What is Bug Club?

Bug Club is a levelled reading scheme, which ensures that your child has access to books at their level. All of the books are available online and each child has their own personalised homepage.

Using Bug Club

To access Bug Club online then go to the website:

www.bugclub.co.uk

The school ID is nrsg

Each child will be allocated their own unique username and password. If your child loses theirs, please ask for a replacement.

Reading a book online

Your child is allocated a book according to their reading level. These books will appear in the ‘My Stuff’ area on their homepage. Throughout the books there are questions for your child to answer based on the book that they are reading. Teachers will be able to see your child’s response through the teacher site. To answer a question just click on the bug icon.

When your child has answered the questions in a book, they will earn coins. These coins can then be used to buy ‘a reward’ from the reward scheme.

Teachers will be able to allocate more books when your child is running low in their account.

How to help your child

  1. Find time to sit with your child so that you can share the online books with your child.
  2. Talk to your child about the book that they are reading. Look at the front cover and talk about what the book might be about.
  3. Listen to book together and help your child to follow the words. This can be done my clicking on the speaker icon.
  4. After listening to the book get the child to read the book to you.
  5. Re-read the book again if needed so that they can read the book fluently before moving on to the next book.
  6. Aim to read two books a week so that quality time can be spent reading each book.

Remember: books should be read more than once so that your child can become fluent readers.

If you need help

If you need any help with Bug Club, please ask your child’s class teacher.

Odd Sock Day for Anti-Bullying Week - Friday 20th November 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, (Monday 16th - Friday 20th November 2020) is Anti-bullying Week.  To raise awareness, we will be having an ‘Odd Socks Day’ on Friday 20th November 2020

You do not need to donate any money for this; all that we ask is that your child comes to school in odd socks!

We know that all parents, pupils and staff at High Hazels are united against bullying, and we hope that you will join us in our celebration of individuality and what makes us unique.

Many thanks for your support,

High Hazels Team

Its Week 2 - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

We have had so much fun in our times table club! We know times tables are a really important part of maths, so we are finding fun ways to practise and memorise them. We started by playing on Times Table Rockstars. Then, we looked for patterns in our times tables to help us remember them more easily. Finally, we started to make flash cards so we can play lots of different games with them. We hope to see more children joining Miss Swain on a Monday and Miss Scrimgeour on a Tuesday.

Its Week 1 - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

Y4 are really enjoying our new computing unit in which we are learning how to write code. This lesson, we wrote the code for drawing a square, challenging ourselves by including the repeat function to make our instructions simpler. Next lesson, we will create a repeating geometric pattern by adding to our code.
