Its the end of Autumn 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

Year 3 have had a fantastic start to the year, and we are really proud of the way they have adapted to the new school rules and routines. We have had a successful first half term full of action-packed learning.

Writing:

In Writing, we have been learning all about the features of a setting description and have used this information to write our own creative setting descriptions. To create our setting description, we allowed our imaginations to run wild by listening to a piece of music which allowed us to make magical and enchanting pictures in our heads. We then describe what we could see by using expanded noun phrases and describing our five senses.

Geography:

In Geography, our new topic has been about understanding the key geographical features of the United Kingdom. First, we learnt about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and located these countries on a map. Next, we discovered that England is split into nine regions and that these regions are split into counties. We used geographical skills by using an eight-point compass to locate different counties on a map. We focused on the county that we live in, South Yorkshire. In addition, we have explored the key physical features of the UK including rivers, mountains and the ocean.

Science:

In Science the children have been learning all about rocks. First, we started off with a rock hunt and investigated the different properties of rocks. Through an experiment, we discovered that some rocks and permeable and other rocks are impermeable.  After that, we learnt that there are three types of naturally occurring rocks- igneoussedimentary and metamorphic. For this, we worked practically by using sweets to demonstrate how different rocks are formed. This was so much fun!

Art:

In Artwe have been learning all about the famous artist Edith Holden. We have used her work as inspiration to help us create our final piece. Before creating our final piece, we practised a range of different drawing techniques to add texture, dimension and clarity to our art. This included line drawings, shading and cross-hatching.

After-school Clubs:

The children have really loved being part of the after-school clubs available to them. We have had some very excited children for art club, dance club and sports games club. We hope to see the same enthusiasm in the clubs for next half term!

The Year 3 team have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Year 3 this half term and it has been uplifting to see so many children dedicated and excited towards their learning

We look forward to welcoming all children back after half term to enjoy another 6 weeks of new learning and experiences.

See you soon,

Year Team.
