Year 3 have had a fantastic half term, through exploring the historical monument of Stonehenge and creating a free-standing replica to writing mystical and enticing twisted fairy-tales! Well done.
Writing:
In Writing, we have been learning about the features and structure of a fairy tale and using this information to write our own terrifying, twisted fairy-tales. We have also looked at non-fiction texts and used our prior learning and understanding of Rocks to produce an informative leaflet for tourists at Castleton cavern.
Geography:
In Geography, our new topic has been all about the UK. First, we went on a virtual tour of the UK and spotted various landmarks and cities. Next, we used atlases to locate cities, river and mountains in the UK. We learnt about the various aspects which make up the UK and why people would choose to live in different types of places such as cities and the countryside. We considered what facilities we have in Sheffield which makes it a fantastic city to live in!
D & T:
Last half term, children learnt all about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. One of the most amazing things we touched upon was the monumental structure of Stonehenge that has remained after all these years. In DT, we used this knowledge to research about Stonehenge and used our understanding to design a replica. For our final piece, we used clay, tools and precision to carefully shape out each stone and create a free-standing structure of Stonehenge.
Music:
In Music, we have continued our scheme of learning on Charanga, creating more opportunities to improve our skills on the Glockenspiels. We have loved copying, following and improvising with different pieces of music!
After-school Clubs:
The children have really loved being part of the after-school clubs available to them. We have had some very excited children for Sports club, Music Club and Board Game Club. We hope to see the same enthusiasm in the clubs for next half term!
The Year 3 team have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Year 3 this half term and it has been uplifting to see so many children dedicated and excited for their learning.
We look forward to welcoming all children back after half term to enjoy another 6 weeks of new learning and experiences.
See you soon,
Year 3 Team.
