10 Day Active Challenge 14th June - 25th June

Dear Parents/Carers

Our school will be taking part in the 10 day Active Travel Challenge starting on Monday 14th and finishing on Friday 25rd June 2021.

The challenge is for pupils & their families to choose an active way of getting to school over the 10 day period. During the challenge each classroom will have a wall chart on which pupils who have travelled actively will record their journey. Those pupils with 10 stickers on the chart at the end of the 10 day challenge will be awarded a prize.

Walking, cycling, skating, scooting and park & stride are all active ways of travelling and we hope by taking part in the challenge it will:

  • Improve health & wellbeing of our pupils & their families
  • Encourage pupils and families to be more active
  • Reduce congestion and parking problems around our school
  • Improve air quality around school
  • Promote active travel for the journey to school and for families to continue to do this after the challenge!

Summer Term Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had another busy half term packed with events and successes, including our most recent Eid-ul-Fitr parties. We have made fantastic gains in learning with all our pupils regardless of their starting point. I have been particularly impressed with our pupils’ strong and positive behaviours for learning and determination to do well in all their learning. This half term the staff have run 26 different clubs free to all our pupils across the school. These extra-curricular activities included: arts, sports, music, cooking, funky fingers, and mindfulness to name a few. We will be running a new range of after school clubs again next half term. Please continue to sign up your child/ren for these clubs as they play an integral part in our offer of ‘Education with Character’.

I am really looking forward to next half term and to having all our pupils back in school. The final half term of the academic year is always packed with events celebrating the successes of our pupils amongst other events. Teachers will be holding another round of parent consultation meeting to share your child/ren’s progress over the year. Our admin and pastoral team will be able to support you in setting up those online meetings if you haven’t yet attended one.

Please click her to view our newsletter in full

Finally, thank you all for your continued support and encouragement.

We have finished Summer 1 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Y3..............

Year 3 have had a very exciting half term learning all about Ancient Greece and writing their own myths and newspapers! Well done.

Writing:

In Writing, we have been learning about the features and structure of a narrative story and using this information to write our own exciting myths. We have also looked at newspaper reports and used our experience of the Ancient Greece workshop day to create our own newspaper.

History:

In History, our topic has been all about Ancient Greece. First, we looked at the country Greece and researched facts about it. Next, we had a visit from Dantastic Education who showed us lots of different Greek weapons and armour as well as taught us all about the Olympics and how the Ancient Greeks lived. We discussed what aspects of Ancient Greek life has influenced our lives today such as columns in buildings and democracy!

 Art:

As we are looking at Ancient Greece this half term, we have created some Greek urns in our art lessons following the style of Henri Matisse. First we created a fact file for Henri Matisse and discovered that he used bright colours and different brush strokes. We practised mixing the primary and secondary colours and using different brush strokes. For our final piece, we used these to decorate an outline of an urn to put on our own patterns.

Music:

In Music, we have continued our scheme of learning on Charanga, creating more opportunities to improve our skills on the Glockenspiels. We have loved copying, following and improvising with different pieces of music as well as learning some sign language!

After-school Clubs:

The children have really loved being part of the after-school clubs available to them. We have had some very excited children for Art club, Keyboard Club and Cooking Club. We hope to see the same enthusiasm in the clubs for next half term!

The Year 3 team have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Year 3 this half term and it has been uplifting to see so many children dedicated and excited for their learning.

We look forward to welcoming all children back after half term to enjoy another 6 weeks of new learning and experiences.

See you soon,

Year 3 Team.

Its Week 5 - Lets see what's been happening in Y3..............

Year 3 have had an amazing week of learning this week. In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions and recognising a third. In Reading, we learnt about god, goddesses and heroes in Ancient Greece culture and built our vocabulary on this topic. In Writing, we planned and wrote our fun-packed newspaper reports all about our Ancient Greek Workshop. Following on with our topic of Ancient Greece, we completed our final piece in Art where we used our painting techniques to create Grecian pots in the style of Henri Matisse. What a super week! Well done, Year 3.

Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Y3..............

Year 3 have had a wonderful week of learning this week. In Writing, we completed our stories about a child’s journey through Ancient Greece. In Maths, we have started our brand-new topic of fractions: learning about recognising halves and quarters. Further, in History Year 3 have been learning about the different architectural designs that Ancient Greek Temples had and considering if we would have such buildings today. We then designed our own Greek temples for the goddess Athena! Perhaps most exciting of all was the run up to the Eid, filled with excitement and cheer. We would like to wish everyone a special Eid Mubarak from the Year 3 team!!
