Important Information Returning to School - Monday 8th March

Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to inform you about some key arrangements for our school opening on 8th March 2021. You will be already aware of the government's announcement, that all pupils will be expected to attend school from next Monday 8th March. This, I am sure, is very positive news for our whole school community. Attendance will be required at school and will be monitored as it has been in the past. Unauthorised absence will be treated as such and followed up accordingly.

The most up to date Government guidance means several important changes to how the school runs. Most changes remain as per our wider opening of schools in September.  In particular:

● When pupils are in school, they will remain within their class group bubble. We will be avoiding any non-essential mixing of year groups;

● Arrivals, break times, lunchtimes and end of school will be staggered to minimise the interaction between year groups. Late children will be asked to wait at the main gate on Fisher Lane and a member of staff will come to assist when all year groups are in the building;

● Year groups will be separated within the school wherever possible so that pupils have access to a minimal number of classrooms and use of communal areas is strictly controlled;

● All areas of the school will receive more frequent cleaning and there will be hand sanitiser available throughout the school. We will continue to encourage children to wash their hands regularly and promote ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ for any sneezes or coughs;

● Sport and Physical Education will predominantly take place outdoors and contact sports will not be played; pupils will be expected to come to school in their P.E kit on the days they are scheduled to have P.E.  Listed below are allocated PE days for each year group

FS2 Garnet - Thursday                                                    Y5 Ametrine – Monday & Tuesday

● We will not be offering breakfast or afterschool clubs in the first few weeks;

● Children will not be permitted to go home for lunch, children will either have a school meal or a packed lunch from home.  The school office will not accept any late lunch boxes

We would request that you continue to take care to follow any particular instructions around pick-up and drop-off and socially distance at the school gates.

Also, if your child is on any medication, such as needing to use inhalers or EpiPen, then please ensure that you bring this to school on Monday 8th March.

I would also like to request that all Chromebooks are returned to school with your child. This will allow staff to continue to support your child/ren’s learning using the benefits of technology. We expect the return of all Chromebooks along with the pupils.

We know that some pupils will feel apprehensive about returning to school after such a long time away – this is natural and normal. In welcoming back some of our year groups in the autumn term, it was gratifying to see the smiles from the children as they met friends and staff again. We will of course be taking particular steps to ensure that our pastoral support for each pupil provides the right reassurance and allows time and space for any remaining worries or concerns to be addressed so that each pupil is able to enjoy being back at school.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding over the past few months. Everyone at the academy is looking forward to welcoming our pupils back. We know that there is a great deal to do, and that the year ahead may still be subject to some interruptions. But we are entirely focused on making sure that in every lesson, every day, every pupil continues to learn and thrive.

Finally, I would like to thank you, our parents and careers, for your continued support in ensuring that your child engages with all the learning offer despite all the restrictions of this pandemic. I am proud to say that we have had 95% of all our pupils across the school engaging daily with our online learning offer last term. This is a fantastic example of our home school partnership at its best. For this I am grateful.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. A Maqsood-Shah
