We are so incredibly proud of our year 6 pupils and all they have achieved this year!
In the autumn term, they came back with a mature attitude, and they were raring to learn. They quickly adapted to the changes in school life and set a brilliant example for the younger children in school.
In history, we learnt all about the Victorians and how Britain changed during this period. We developed our knowledge outside of our history lessons as well and created some fantastic pieces of writing explaining the differences between the lower, middle, and upper classes as well as writing a letter to the Prime Minister at the time to convince him to abolish child labour.
Then came the spring term and, with it, a second national lockdown. Once again, our year 6 pupils made us so proud with how well they adapted to the change and engaged with their online learning. We learnt so many new skills on the computer as well as continuing to access all areas of the curriculum from home. One of the best experiences in the spring term was our UKS2 Story Slam competition. All the children in Y5 and 6 planned, wrote and published a story at home, and the winner from each class competed in the Story Slam final. We held this virtually and the judges were blown away by the children’s efforts and creativity with their writing.
Despite the success of our online learning, we were all thrilled to get back into the classroom in March. The children have made fantastic progress and have been determined to meet their targets.
Towards the end of the year, we have been able to celebrate all our achievements in Y6 and throughout our time at High Hazels Academy. We had a Y6 Adventure Day where we got to experience archery, climbing, axe throwing, laser tag, survival skills and team challenges. It was a wonderful day and we all rose to the challenge. As well as this, we have enjoyed our end-of-year-six party out on the field. We had food, a dance floor, inflatable games, arts and crafts, carnival-style games and thoroughly enjoyed spending time together.
The teachers want to thank every single year 6 child for all their hard work, resilience, and effort this year, and we want to wish you all the very best of luck at secondary school. You will be dearly missed!
