Returning to School September 2021

Its the end of the year - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

Firstly, we would like to start this newsletter by thanking parents, grandparents, and carers for their support this year. Your punctuality and expectations of your children in school has meant that together we have had a very successful year. Next, we would like to thank the all the Year 4 children. Their respect, politeness, enthusiasm, creativity, and kindness has made them a joy to teach, and we have thoroughly enjoyed guiding them throughout Year 4. We are immensely proud of the resilience they have shown through the period of lockdowns, their adaptability in returning to school and their consistency in showcasing High Hazels’ values.  We have had a busy summer term in Year 4, completing lots of new learning and working hard in our end of year test. We are so proud of the progress the children have made and their dedication to learning.

We have spent the second half of the summer term exploring the topic of rainforests. It has been lovely to see the children engage with this topic in geography, reading and writing; many children have shown a passion and wider knowledge in this unit. In geography, we have learnt about the different climate zones, the tropics, layers of the rainforest, animal adaptations and dangers of deforestation. This has also linked to our writing and their new knowledge has helped them to write some exceptional explanations texts about the importance of rainforests to our planet. In ICT this term, children have developed their skills on word to create posters about animals living in the rainforest. They produced fantastic animal posters from anacondas and parrots, to monkeys and endangered pandas. It was nice to see the children becoming increasingly confident on the computers and for them to showcase their technological skills, they even taught us a thing or two!

In music, Year 4 have continued to work with Liam, from Sheffield Music Hub, where they have developed their glockenspiel skills further, learning to play the Bat Man theme tune and even trying some improvisation. Year 4 have also been learning the song ‘The Power in the Music’ and have recorded this for a city-wide singing festival. They have enjoyed using ‘class family time’ in school to learn something together and have added actions to their singing to create a great performance. We were impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and have enjoyed performing with them.

A highlight of this term has been sports day and ‘beat the street’. Children took part in a fantastic sports day where they competed in 9 different activities to win points for their team. They showcased their running, balancing and ball skills by doing activities such as speed bounce, balance beam and a whole class school race. The sun was shining for this joyful day and the children had a great time. The second highlight has been the ‘beat the street’ programme set up in Sheffield. Children have been going around Sheffield scanning their fobs in different places to earn points for the school. It has been great to see children get active and explore their local areas in this way.

As part of our enrichment programme, the children have enjoyed taking part in film club, TTRS club and tennis club. This has given them the opportunity to learn new skills and to enjoy some time doing different activities. The tennis club have enjoyed participating in a tournament where they played tennis games in front of some VIP guests, made their own tickets, and served refreshments.

We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Year 4 and we will miss them greatly. We wish them all the best on their journey through High Hazels and look forward to seeing their bright faces around school and to hearing all about their wonderful progress fr

Award Winners 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

It is very important that school and parents work closely together to celebrate children’s achievements, and in doing so, children realise their potential and develop a strong sense of achievement and motivation to succeed.

Every year the school relishes the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our pupils.  We are delighted to announce that today in the lovely sunshine we held our High Hazels Academy Annual Awards Ceremony, as for the past 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have been unable to do so.

Well done to all the winners.

We would love to hear feedback from parents and pupils aboput our enrichment clubs, and any ideas pupils have for new clubs.

Please can parents click on the link below to complete a short questionnaire

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y4..............

In year 4 we have been learning about rainforests and wanted to share some of what we have learnt. We decided to use word to publish our posters so that the information stands out and is easy to read. We learnt how to use the different features on word and practised changing the size, colour and format of our writing as well as searching for images and formatting them. Once we were confident using word, we worked together to create our posters.

PTA Selling Ice Pops - Thursday 24th June

Dear Parents/carers

Due to the currrent Covid-19 pandemic our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) have been unable to have any events in school for the last 18 months. Our PTA work extremely hard to raise money to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting.

Therefore the PTA will be selling ice pops on Thursday 24th June for 50p each.  Children can bring money into school if they wish to buy one.

Many thanks for your continued support
