Year 3 have had a fantastic Summer Term of learning and have demonstrated core values such as ambition, creativity and enthusiasm. The Year 3 team could not be any prouder!
Writing:
This term in writing, we have been learning all about fables. During this unit, the children learnt that fables are cautionary, warning tales where the characters learn a moral lesson the hard way. We read the story of 'The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing' and retold it using talk for writing. We created actions for the sinister, cunning wolf, lone shepherd and the oblivious sheep. After learning the story, we were so excited to innovate it and write our very own descriptive fables. The children created fantastic fables with the key moral ‘things aren’t always what they seem’.
Maths:
In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions. We learnt key vocabulary such as the ‘numerator’ and ‘denominator’. Recently, we have been finding fractions of amounts. For this, we used a Kagan structure called ‘Rally Coach’. The children were fantastic at guiding their partners and loved this collaborative learning approach.
D&T:
In D&T, the children loved the Moving Monster unit. Firstly, we learnt all about pneumatic systems and how they work. Then, we designed our very own Moving Monster, making sure we included key materials such as syringes and a tube. Finally, we created our Moving Monster based on our design criteria. It was wonderful to see the children use their imagination and demonstrate so much creativity.
After-school Clubs:
The children have really loved being part of the after-school clubs available to them this term. We will be continuing with the same clubs in Summer 2, along with a whole-school Choir Club.
We hope the children have a well-deserved rest over the holidays, and we look forward to welcoming them back on the 6th of June for their final term in year 3.
See you soon,
Year 3 team.
