We have finished Spring 2 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Y5..............

As the end of the half term approaches, Year 5 can look back on an exciting period of learning opportunities and successes.

Art in Year 5

During art your child has focussed on the artist Stephen Wiltshire. They have applied their knowledge of perspective drawing and created their own Stephen Wiltshire inspired drawing.

Then came lockdown however this didn’t stop our enthusiastic, eager to learn children. The engagement and participation levels were amazing. Y5 have been creative and imaginative, we have taken part in the story slam national competition, we’ve completed beautiful art projects and taken part in E-safety programmes, science weeks and much more. We are so proud of their online learning achievements.

Once again, it has been an enjoyable but busy half term and we look forward to the new summer term ahead.

Its Week 5 - Lets see what's been happening in Y5..............

This week the children have done a book study on an amazing book called the Fog Hounds. The children have really explored the language used within the text, characters and settings. Drama has been incorporated to get a better understating of the text. They have thoroughly enjoyed reading and writing about this text.

Story Slam Winners 2021

StorySLAM is a story writing and story-telling competition for year 5 and 6 pupils. Every year, schools run their internal competitions between October and January to select their ‘school champion’.

StorySLAM is a great way for students to develop their writing, communication, oracy and performance skills, all while unleashing their imagination.

Winner for High Hazels - Inayah Sattar, came 4th out of all the United Learning Northern Schools, and Amber Khan came 2nd for our in school competition.

Well done we are proud of you both!!

Ramadan - Fasting information for Y5 &Y6 parents

Dear Parent/Carer

As the holy month of Ramadan will start on w/c 12th April we appreciate that some of our older children will be wanting to Fast. It is extremely important that we have parent/carer consent for children who will be fasting.

While we understand children will want to Fast we would advise that children below Y5 keep their Fast during the weekend as when they are in school they are very active and at this time of year there a lots of things happening.

For Health and Safety reasons if any child becomes unwell during their Fast we will contact parents for permission to give them food and drink. Parents may be advised to take their child home. On a hot day we will also be asking those children who are fasting to stay indoors/in the shade.

Its Week 4 - Lets see what's been happening in Y5..............

Following the research, this week the children have designed their own bugbot.  They have carefully thought about what materials they need to use. Their bugbots were fabulous.

The children have also started their Art Unit-Painting. They will focus on the Artist Salvador Dali, a surrealist, and create art inspired by him. They have thoroughly enjoyed researching his art work and critiquing it. Quiz your children about this artist, I’m sure they will know a lot about him.

Virtual Parents Evening 30th & 31st March

Dear Parents

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic we have been unable to hold face to face parents evening meetings.  We have missed meeting parents, and we want to ensure that until we can meet parents face to face we have a virtual system to discuss pupils progress.

Therefore the school has introduced a new intuitive and easy to use online appointment booking system called school cloud. This allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and you will receive an email confirming your appointments.

School cloud allows parents to have a video consultation with their childs class teacher, and we are confident that parents will find this system simple and easy to use and we welcome any feedback.

We will hold our virtual parent evening meetings on Tuesday 30th March and Wednesday 31st March.  Parents will be sent a letter detailing all the information needed to make appointments, along with parents unique login code.  Nursery parents will be able to speak to Mrs Adlington on Wednesday 31st March

Please click here to access High Hazels Academy School Cloud Account

If you have any questions or queries please contact the main school office on 0114 2442189 or email enquiries@highhazelsacademy.org.uk.

Many thanks for your continued support

Its Week 3 - Lets see what's been happening in Y5..............

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back this week and see so much enthusiasm for learning.

This week it was British Science week. The children have had time to research one of the mini beasts we have looked at. They have included what they look like, what they eat, what their habitat is and how they survive in their habitat. Following the research, we have designed our own bugbot.  They have carefully thought about what materials they need to use. Next week, they will be creating these models.
