Christmas Jumper Day 10th December 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Friday 10th December we are taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

Children will be able to come to school wearing a winter themed jumper. This could be one bought in the shops, or made at home. Children could add some tinsel to a jumper they already have. Some children have even made a spotty t-shirt before.

If children want to take part in Christmas Jumper Day, then please use our Just Giving Page. https://christmas.savethechildren.org.uk/fundraising/cjd210018881

You can donate as little or as much as you like on there. Alternatively, you can send £2 to school Friday 10th December. All money raised will go to Save the Children, making sure every child, no matter where they’re born, has essentials like food and water, healthcare, education, protection and shelter.

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

In Year 3 this week, children have been writing an information text all about their favourite dinosaurs - Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Diplodocus, and the Velociraptor. They collated their ideas about the animal's habitat, diet and appearance and created a collection of dinosaur information texts to form a class book. Well done, Year 3!

Y3 Swimming Lessons at Ponds Forge

Dear Parent/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that children in Year 3 will be starting swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum on Tuesday 23rd November 2021. Pupils will attend school as normal on Tuesdays and will travel, supervised by school staff, via coach to the Ponds Forge Leisure Centre each week. The swimming sessions will run for 18 weeks until Tuesday 3rd May 2022 and will be taught by qualified swimming instructors. The sessions are fully funded by school, and as they are part of the curriculum, all children are expected to participate. If for any reason your child is unwell and unable to participate in a session, please speak to school staff.

For each lesson your child will need to come to school dressed in their swimwear (underneath their school uniform).

They will also need to bring the following:

  • A towel
  • A waterproof bag
  • A change of underwear

Please ensure you follow the guidance below:

  • Your child should not bring or wear any jewellery, including ear piercings. Taping over piercings is not acceptable and will mean your child cannot participate in a swimming session.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • The teacher will ensure any medication which has been shared with school is taken with the child’s group. If your child has a medical need such as asthma, this information has been shared with school and an inhaler has been provided.
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn each week. Please do not send your child in bikinis, shorts below the knee, heavy outdoor clothing or underwear.
  • If your child is required to wear a long sleeve top and leggings, these should be lightweight materials and worn underneath or on top of swimwear.
  • If your child requires goggles, these must be provided by you and you will need to inform your child’s class teacher prior to the first lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

This week, Year 3 have been reading a book called 'Day of the Dinosaurs' by Dr Steve Brusatte and learning about all the elements that make up a non-fiction text. In Reading, we made flashcards about our favourite dinosaurs from the Triassic period such as the Herrerasaurus, Tawa and Eedrameaus. We can't wait to start writing our own informative texts next week!

HIGH HAZELS LANTERN PARADE LIGHTS UP DARNALL

The streets of Darnall were alive with music, dance and light taken when High Hazels Academy staged the return of their annual lantern parade last week.

Held on Friday 5th November, the colourful event was also supported by Sheffield Park Academy, and provided the perfect opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their handiwork, parading their wonderful lanterns down Staniforth Road and up the main road.

Music for the event came care of Darnall Community Gospel Choir, and High Hazels youngest also sang, whilst the moves were provided by Sheffield Park's students with a contemporary dance routine.  The crowds were also entertained by stilt walkers and fire throwers from Innovation Entertainments, which ended the parade in style.

Commenting on the parade, High Hazels Academy’s Principal Mrs Asma Maqsood-Shah said:

“It’s a fantastic event and one which helps to bring the whole community together. The children also love having the opportunity to show off the wonderful lanterns they have made.”

Dunya news also attended the parade, the full interview can be found by clicking here
