Intent
At High Hazels Academy, we strive for our children’s learning in science to provide them with the foundations of the understanding of the world and create opportunities for children to understand the impact science has had and will continue to have in their future. Our intent is that children are excited about science and that we are able to equip all children with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications they themselves can have on our scientific future.
Implementation
Throughout the year children will study a range of topics allowing them to gain scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding of physics, biology and chemistry. At the beginning of each unit, children will have opportunities to explore new concepts and vocabulary that will support them alongside their learning. Each science lesson will then involve an investigation to develop children’s excitement and curiosity and to allow them to ask questions about what they observe. Within each topic, children will also lead a scientific enquiry where they will implement an experiment allowing them to work scientifically and explore ways to answer their questions about the world around them.
Impact
Our approach in science is designed to ensure all pupils are taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of the subject. Our science curriculum not only develops our children in this way, and for the future learning of science, but also encourages them to aspire to future jobs within the STEM subjects.
