Dear Parents/Carers

As I write to you on the final day of this half term, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all our staff and pupils. They have worked so hard this term to get back on track with all learning. Our staff have created bespoke catch-up plans to ensure that no child is left behind because of the pandemic. I will be sending you more information after half term about these plans, including our continuity of learning.

All our pupils have settled into school really well and have impressed all of us with their confidence and ability to manage their learning with all the current restrictions. I have already noticed brilliant progress in children’s books. This is a credit to our pupils’ exceptional learning behaviours and determination to do well at school. We look forward to sharing your child/ren’s progress next half term.

I would like to thank all our parents/carers for their continued support, and timely communication that has been invaluable to us in the safe running of the school. Here at High Hazels Academy, we are all looking forward to the start of another amazing term, full of learning achievements, joy and progress.

Have a restful half term break.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah

We have finished Autumn 1 Term - Lets see what's been happening in Y1..............

Y1 have made a great start to the year. The teachers are so impressed with the progress the children have made and how well they have settled into their new year group.

We have been reviewing skills in our Maths and Literacy lessons such as counting, number formation, letter formation and simple sentence writing. The children have really enjoyed getting back into the swing of their learning.

We have completed lots of high-quality work around our Topic of ‘Super Me!’. We have been exploring our local area in Geography and finding out about maps and how to use them. We have even spent time outside drawing our own maps!

The children have particularly enjoyed our Art lessons and learning about our artist Paul Klee. We have been exploring different skills such as shapes, lines, colours and sketching. Our final Art lesson involved us sketching and reviewing a Sheffield city scape using these skills. Here is one of our final piece’s:

One of our highlights of the term was our visit from the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. The giant made a BIG mess in our classrooms and left us some magic beans!

Well done on a super term Y1!

10 Day Active Challenge Starting 12th October

10 Day Active Challenge Starting 12th October

Dear Parent / Carer,

Our school will be taking part in the 10 day Active Travel Challenge starting on Monday 12th and finishing on Friday 23rd October 2020.

The challenge is for pupils & their families to choose an active way of getting to school over the 10 day period. The challenge is also open to school staff and we will be making every effort to take part too.

Walking, cycling, skating, scooting and park & stride are all active ways of travelling and we hope by taking part in the challenge it will:

  • Improve health & wellbeing of our pupils & their families
  • Encourage pupils and families to be more active
  • Reduce congestion and parking problems around our school
  • Improve air quality around school

Please be aware if you live a long way from school and need to drive you can still take part by parking away from school (at least a 5 minute walk) and walking the last part of your journey, this is called Park & Stride.

We are competing against schools from across South Yorkshire so we really do need your help. Please do your best to be active on your journey to school and help us complete the challenge.
