High Hazels Win in 10 day active challenge: Park & Stride in conjunction with a local business, house points awarded to those scooting & cycling with extra points for wearing a helmet/safety gear.

Thank you for taking on the 10 day Active Travel challenge June 2018. We hope you enjoyed taking part and families are continuing to make an active journey to school where possible.

I am pleased to announce the winners of the whole school prizes. This is a really tough decision to make with a record number of schools taking part this year (100) and some really great activities and initiatives set up. Over 13000 children completed the challenge alongside 200 staff, this is an amazing result – thank you for all your hard work and commitment to the challenge and what it stands for.

Winning schools can choose a prize from the following options:

·         Walk to School Event with Green Top Circus

·         A Scooterpod, shape & colour of your choice

·         A special active travel themed party assembly courtesy of Non Stop Kids Entertainment.

Schools have been chosen based on the evidence they provided on the prize claim form, they are in no particular order!

St Mary’s High Green, Sheffield: Wacky headwear walking bus, traffic counts and lots of photos shared on social media.

Intake, Sheffield: Active travel badges & posters.  Parental engagement with activities and a parking permit/pledge scheme established.

Mosborough, Sheffield: Park and stride with collectable wrist bands.

Rowena, Doncaster: Excellent engagement through social media throughout the challenge.

St Thomas, Kilnhurst, Rotherham: Ran a different activity/initiative everyday of the challenge.

High Hazels, Sheffield: Park & Stride in conjunction with a local business, house points awarded to those scooting & cycling with extra points for wearing a helmet/safety gear.

Oasis Fir Vale, Sheffield: Working with local clean air campaigners including a walk to school with ITV news & local press coverage.

St Peters, Tankersley, Barnsley: Launched 2 cycling to school initiatives, Golden lock and Bike to School passport scheme.

Congratulations if you are a winning school. I will be in touch with you directly to confirm details of prizes. To everyone else, thanks once again for taking part, maybe you can win next time! - High Hazels will choose a scooter pod
