Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week has been an exciting week in school! We have started 'Bagel and a Book', every day when the children come into school they can have a bagel for breakfast and sit with a book. The children in nursery have loved having their bagels for breakfast and looking at a selection of books. We have had a busy week continuing to learn about different types of transport.  The children have been painting pictures of buses, cars, trains and using junk modelling to build these. In maths, we have been describing a sequence of events using words such as ‘first we wake up, then we get dressed,  after that we go to school'. We can't wait for next week when we start our new story all about buses!

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have been reading a new story called ‘We all go travelling by’. We have been very busy making our own vehicles from the story in the creative area using junk modelling. In the maths area we have been building vehicles with 3D shapes and in the writing area we have been drawing pictures from the story. In our outdoor area we have been playing musical instruments loudly and quietly, building train tracks and practising throwing and catching balls. Next week we will continue our learning on different types of transport.

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have continued our transport themed learning. We have made 3D models of different vehicles using junk modelling and displayed these around nursery. We have continued to read ‘The Train Ride’ and talked about who we can see from the train window. We have also enjoyed welcoming some new friends to our nursery and helped them to settle in and explore! We can’t wait for next week when we will start our new story ‘We all go travelling by’.

This week we have been settling back into nursery after the holidays. We have started our new topic- ‘On the Move’ which is all about transport. We have read the story ‘The Train Ride’ and made our own trains using junk modelling! We have also been making repeating patterns with train sponges on the maths table. We have wrapped up warm and played outside with our friends riding the bikes, cooking in the mud kitchen and building tracks with the large construction blocks. Next week we will continue our transport theme and look at more stories about trains!

End of Term Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

Please click here to view the end of term newsletter.

It has been a challenging, enjoyable and very productive half term at high Hazels. Reflecting on what we have done and achieved thus far, fills me with pride and humility to be part of such an amazing staff team who all work hard together for the better of all our pupils and to serve our supportive community. We have completed our end of term assessments for all year groups where our pupils have demonstrated the fantastic progress gained in this Autumn term. Well done to all our pupils, their determination and resilience is commendable.

This half term tarted with our annual High Hazels Lantern Parade on the 5th of November, and I am sure you will agree with me that it was a resounding success. For this I am grateful to all the local councillors Mary Lea and Zahida Naz, South Yorkshire police, Darnall Well-Being, Sheffield Park Academy, Local youth clubs and our fantastic PTA. The success of this event is due to the meticulous planning of our school leaders, creativity of our pupils and the support of all the mentioned groups and organisation, without whom this event would not be possible.

As always, our pupils have received a full complement of an exciting curriculum and enrichment offer including theatre visits, inter school sports tournaments, after school clubs, Reception Christmas singalong, swimming offer to Years 3 and 4, end of term parties, Christmas jumper and Children in need fund raising events, just to list a few.

This half term we have been able to restart our face-to-face parental engagement offers cautiously and carefully such as: family learning, toddler group, coffee morning, reading workshops, weekly achievement assemblies, PTA meetings, parent consultation meetings.

How you can help us next term:

  1. We need parent volunteers to support or free breakfast offer for all pupils.  From January all our pupils will receive a free breakfast bagel in the morning as part of our commitment to ensure all pupils have a great start to their learning day with a healthy breakfast. To this end I am reaching out to all of our parents to ask for parent volunteers to support us in the mornings in preparing this breakfast. You can volunteer for 1 hour for any day in the week. If you or anyone in your family has the capacity to support us with this than please speak to your child’s class teacher.
  2. We need a parent working group to consider our Relationships Health and Sex Education curriculum consultation. If you are a parent and would like to be part of this working party, then please contact the school office, and let us know. The group will begin their work/consultation with myself in January week beginning 10th of January. I am hoping to be able to go out to full parent body consultation by the end of January in order to complete the consultations by February half term. This will then allow the RHSE policy to be ratified and in place from March 2022.

Finally I would like to thank all our pupils, staff, governors and parents for their continued support and efforts.

Wishing all our school communities a Happy New Year and a very merry festive season.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah

Principal

Its the end of Autumn 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

What a busy, fun filled term full of learning we have had in nursery! We started the term off learning about nocturnal animals and had a visit from the Wise Owl Falconry Rescue centre. During this visit we got to watch a barn owl fly across the hall, eat and even got to hold an owl for a photograph!

We have also learnt about how different winter festivals are celebrated. We have learnt all about bonfire night, Diwali, Halloween, and Christmas. We talked about safety around fireworks, made biscuits and firework pictures. For Diwali, we talked about who and how people celebrate it in the community as well at home and made firework biscuits to take home. For Christmas we made cards, calendars, read lots of Christmas stories and decorated a real Christmas tree!

As well as all these celebrations we also continued to explore all areas of nursery with our friends, learning to share and talk about our feelings. As we did this, we developed our confidence in new social situations and started to think about how others may feel. We also enjoyed playing and learning in our outdoor area climbing on the climbing frame, riding the bikes, collecting autumn leaves, and playing games with each other. We are so excited for next term where we will continue to learn and play with our friends! Remember to ask us all about our learning!

Its week 6 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have been learning all about Christmas! We have spent timing talking about who and how people celebrate Christmas. We had an exciting delivery of a real Christmas tree! The children have enjoyed helping to decorate it and even made their own decorations! On the maths table the children have been ordering presents by size, on the writing table they have been writing letters to Santa and drawing pictures of toys they would like. We have also been learning lots of Christmas songs including ‘Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’ and we have even learnt the Makaton actions to the song! We can't wait for next week when we will have our Christmas party!

School will buy party food and drink for all the children, and we would ask that parents pay £1 per child.  This money can be brought into school on the day.

This is also a non-uniform day for all the children.

If your child has any allergies then please ensure their medical records are up to date in the office.

If you have any questions or queries then please come and speak to your child’s class teacher.
