Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

This week we have been busy in Maths learning about shapes, circles and triangles in particular. We have learnt that they have properties which identify them, like how many sides and vertices they have. We have also been on a shape hunt outside to find circles and triangles in the environment. This is a fun activity to try at home or in the supermarket too. We have been continuing our learning around the story ‘Supertato’ in literacy, writing list of qualities we would like in our very own superhero sidekicks. We have enjoyed a P4C lesson where we posed the question ‘Do you have to have powers to be a hero?’ We got some very interesting answers like “No because a policeman keeps everyone safe”. This week we also hosted our reading and phonics parent workshop, thank you to everyone who attended and we hope you enjoyed it.

Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

This week, Y4 have loved getting started on our textiles unit. We learnt the basics like threading a needle, tying a knot in our thread and doing a running stitch. We had to be really determined as it was tricky at first. We are thrilled with our first attempts and can't wait to learn some decorative techniques next week.

Dear Parent(s),

As part of our sport offer at school, we will be taking part in a football tournament against Oasis Don Valley on Monday 6th December 2021.

This will be a 7-a-side football tournament with teams from High Hazels playing against teams Oasis Don Valley.

It will take place at Oasis Academy’s AstroTurf pitch.

The child will be going on Monday 6th December 2021. We shall leave school after the register and walk to the tournament. We will return by lunchtime so your child will not need a packed lunch.

As there will be some waiting between games, please ensure that your child wears warm clothing as they will be outside from 9:30-11:30.

There is no cost for this trip.

If you don’t want your child to take part, please return this form or get in touch with Mr.Sexton or Mrs. Morris.

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

In Year 3 this week, children have been writing an information text all about their favourite dinosaurs - Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Diplodocus, and the Velociraptor. They collated their ideas about the animal's habitat, diet and appearance and created a collection of dinosaur information texts to form a class book. Well done, Year 3!

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

This week in Reception we continued our learning on the topic ‘People who help us’, we have looked at some real life super heroes such as Rosa Parks and Winston Churchill. Our focus book in Literacy has been ‘Supertato’ which is all about a superhero potato who rescues his vegetables friends from the clutches of the evil pea. We have been using the technique of printing in the creative area to make our own supertato. We have built lairs in the construction area for the evil pea and designed our own superhero vegetables in the writing area. We have talked about what superpowers we might like to have and what we would use them for. In Maths we have been learning about the composition of the number 1,2 and 3 we have used different vegetables to represent the different ways you can make 1,2 and 3. We rounded off the week celebrating children in need where we all wore spots and enjoyed some Pudsey themed activities including dancing, colouring and making our own bookmarks.

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have started our new topic 'Polar Express'. We have been reading the story 'Lost and Found' and have been trying to remember what happens at different parts of the story. The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of 'Lost and Found' themed activities, including making a penguin out of 2D shapes, making a boat for the penguin using junk modelling and drawing and describing our favourite parts from the story. We can't wait for next week where we will learn about more Arctic animals!

Y3 Swimming Lessons at Ponds Forge

Y3 Swimming Lessons at Ponds Forge

Dear Parent/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that children in Year 3 will be starting swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum on Tuesday 23rd November 2021. Pupils will attend school as normal on Tuesdays and will travel, supervised by school staff, via coach to the Ponds Forge Leisure Centre each week. The swimming sessions will run for 18 weeks until Tuesday 3rd May 2022 and will be taught by qualified swimming instructors. The sessions are fully funded by school, and as they are part of the curriculum, all children are expected to participate. If for any reason your child is unwell and unable to participate in a session, please speak to school staff.

For each lesson your child will need to come to school dressed in their swimwear (underneath their school uniform).

They will also need to bring the following:

  • A towel
  • A waterproof bag
  • A change of underwear

Please ensure you follow the guidance below:

  • Your child should not bring or wear any jewellery, including ear piercings. Taping over piercings is not acceptable and will mean your child cannot participate in a swimming session.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • The teacher will ensure any medication which has been shared with school is taken with the child’s group. If your child has a medical need such as asthma, this information has been shared with school and an inhaler has been provided.
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn each week. Please do not send your child in bikinis, shorts below the knee, heavy outdoor clothing or underwear.
  • If your child is required to wear a long sleeve top and leggings, these should be lightweight materials and worn underneath or on top of swimwear.
  • If your child requires goggles, these must be provided by you and you will need to inform your child’s class teacher prior to the first lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah
