Its the end of Summer 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

Its the end of Summer 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

FS2 have loved exploring our new topic 'Where we live'. We started off the term by learning about Darnall and our favourite places in the local community. We built models in the construction area and made 3D maps in the creative area. Whilst learning about our local area we read the story book 'The Jolly Postman' and wrote letters to the characters from the book, we even had a special visit from our school postman! We then looked at the country we live in, with a focus on our capital city, London! We shared experiences of our own trips to London and really enjoyed learning facts about different London landmarks like Big Ben and The London Eye, which we turned into a London travel brochure. We have finished our Literacy learning this term by looking at Africa, where we read the story 'All Aboard for the Bobo Road' and have emersed ourselves in African culture, through the exploration of music, dance, and artifacts. In math's we started the term learning about number patterns to 20, then used Rekenreks, ten frames and Numicon to build numbers to 10 and beyond. The children have loved learning about number bonds to 10 and had a fantastic time creating their own number bond rainbows in math's! To finish our math's learning this half term we have been creating and completing repeating patterns. We even made our own repeating pattern fruit kebabs which were delicious! We will start next term celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee, followed by learning around our new topic  ‘What is science'. We can’t wait to see the children engage in more exciting learning, enjoy your break FS2! Parents, you can keep up to date on all our learning by following the FS2 Twitter page @HHA_EYFS.

Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day - Wednesday 8th June

Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day - Wednesday 8th June

Dear Parents/Carers

On Wednesday 8th June 2022 we will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. This is our day to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary of taking the throne.

To celebrate this day in school we are asking that children dress up as a King or Queen. We would really like children to make their own costumes and we will be looking for the most creative costume.

Here are some websites to help you create a great outfit.

Throughout the day, children will be taking part in activities celebrating our Queen such as a tea party, creating their own crowns and a corgi treasure hunt. We hope the children enjoy this day and come together to celebrate this special occasion.

Thank you for your continued support

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

Dear Parents,

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

We wanted to update you on progress with appointing a successor to Mrs Maqsood-Shah as Principal of the academy.

The recruitment process is, unfortunately, taking longer than we had hoped as we are very keen to choose a candidate with the appropriate mix of skills and experience to suit the school and its community.

Whilst we continue with the process, Mr Paul Graham, who is Principal of our Abbey Hey Primary Academy in Gorton, Manchester and knows High Hazels well, will be working with the Senior Leadership Team to support the successful running of the school. Mr Graham is a highly experienced headteacher and is looking forward to spending time at High Hazels. He will be liaising with Mrs Maqsood-Shah and the Vice Principals this term so that he is fully involved with the planning for the next academic year.

We will update you on the recruitment process for a permanent Principal when a successful appointment is made.

Yours sincerely

Eid Parties & Non Uniform Day - Friday 6th May

Dear Parents/Carers

I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to all our families who will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

As a whole school, we will be having Eid parties on Friday, 6th May 2022.  As done previously, we are asking parents/carers for a £1 contribution per child to be brought into class.  The money will be used to purchase party food and drink for all the children.

Please note that the 6th May will also be a non-uniform day for all the children.

As always, if your child has any allergies then please ensure their medical records are up to date in the office.
