We have been very busy with our learning this half term. We kicked started our learning this term by covering our ‘Heroes’ topic, where we learnt about the different people in our communities. We drew pictures and spoke about the roles of people such as police officers, fire fighters and doctors. We also looked at the equipment that they need to do their jobs, made this with playdoh and made models of the vehicles that they use like police cars and fire engines. To finish off our 'Heroes' learning, we learnt all about the adventures of 'Supertato' and engaged in a PSED session, focusing on the language of reasoning where we answered the question, 'Who would you rather be, Evil Pea or Supertato?' The children gave lots of great answers including "The evil pea because he gets stuck in the jelly and I'd eat my way out!".
We then moved onto our 'Winter festivals' theme, where we learnt the traditional stories behind Diwali and Christmas and then discovered lots of ways that people celebrate different festivals with their families. To end out Literacy learning, we have loved reading the story 'Stickman'! We have made Stickman characters using lots of different materials and have enjoyed retelling the story using our own story maps and handmade props.
In Maths this term we have been looking at the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. We have used different items to show the numbers, worked on recognising the amounts in pictures, and looked at composition using our adding machine!
