Children in Need - Friday 19th November

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Friday 19th November it is Children in Need Day.

Children will be able to come to school wearing spots. This could be a spotty jumper, socks, or t-shirt. Some children have even made a spotty t-shirt before.

If children want to take part in Children in Need Day, please can children bring £1 into school on 19th November.

All money that the school raises will then be sent to Children in Need charity.

Many thanks

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

This week in FS2 we have been learning all about people who help us, this could be firefighters, dentists, bus drivers and postal workers among others. We having been learning what their roles are and how they help us. We have also explored what types of vehicles they have and what equipment they use. In Maths we have been focusing on the number 1, 2 and 3. We have learnt that they can be represented in different ways and compared them to one another using the language more and fewer. This week we also learnt about Remembrance Day and what it represents, we had a 2 minute silence and a special assembly. Next week we continue our theme ‘people who help us’ as we look at real life hero’s and enjoy the story Supertato.

HIGH HAZELS LANTERN PARADE LIGHTS UP DARNALL

HIGH HAZELS LANTERN PARADE LIGHTS UP DARNALL

The streets of Darnall were alive with music, dance and light taken when High Hazels Academy staged the return of their annual lantern parade last week.

Held on Friday 5th November, the colourful event was also supported by Sheffield Park Academy, and provided the perfect opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their handiwork, parading their wonderful lanterns down Staniforth Road and up the main road.

Music for the event came care of Darnall Community Gospel Choir, and High Hazels youngest also sang, whilst the moves were provided by Sheffield Park's students with a contemporary dance routine.  The crowds were also entertained by stilt walkers and fire throwers from Innovation Entertainments, which ended the parade in style.

Commenting on the parade, High Hazels Academy’s Principal Mrs Asma Maqsood-Shah said:

“It’s a fantastic event and one which helps to bring the whole community together. The children also love having the opportunity to show off the wonderful lanterns they have made.”

Dunya news also attended the parade, the full interview can be found by clicking here

Its week 1 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

This week in FS2 we have been busy learning all about Bonfire night and Diwali. We have created some beautiful firework pictures using a variety of media and developed our fine motor skills by manipulating pipe cleaners to make fireworks. We made some beautiful lanterns for the parade and learnt how to stay safe around fireworks. We pretended to be firefighters in the role play area and built fire engines in the construction area. We even enjoyed making our very own firework biscuits and went on the wonderful community lantern parade. To round off a great week we also had an very exciting visit from some owls and got to see them fly and learnt lots of different facts. What an amazing week in FS2!

The Toothbrush Project

The Toothbrush Project

Dear Parents/Carers

The refined Early Years curriculum asks that children ‘know and talk about the different factors that support their overall health and wellbeing’, with a focus on oral hygiene. This is embedded within our teaching and provision but to support this further, the children will be starting ‘The Toothbrush Project’, where they will brush their teeth daily in school. Your child will also receive a new toothbrush and toothpaste to use at home.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.

Thank you,

The FS2 Team.

Owl Visit for Nursery & Reception Children - Friday 5th November

Owl Visit for Nursery & Reception Children - Friday 5th November

Dear Parent / Carer,

As part of our topic on ‘Autumn’, we have been looking at nocturnal and woodland animals.

On Friday 5th November we have invited the Wise Owl Falconry to visit us with a range of birds including owls to support our understanding of their way of life. To help us fund this visit we are asking for a contribution of £3.00 to be payable via the arbor app which will include a photo of your child with a bird.

The company and the school have put a detailed risk assessment to ensure all safety measures are in place and in line with government guidelines.

In the meantime, why not visit their website with your child at https://www.wise-owl.co.uk/  and discuss different birds of prey

Thank you in advance for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Its the end of Autumn 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Reception…………………….

WOW! what a fantastic start to FS2! The children have amazed us with how quickly they settled in to their new environments and learnt our rules and routines. We have been very busy with our learning this half term. We started off the Autumn term by getting to know one another, making friends and building relationships with one another. We kicked started our learning this term by covering our ‘All about me’ topic, where we got to know each other a little better by drawing who lives in our house, making ourselves out of play dough and painting self portraits. We moved onto our Autumn theme, where we used marble rolling to create Autumnal leaves, made hedgehogs from play dough and pasta and learnt all about the signs and changes in the natural environment during Autumn. We have most recently been learning all about Owls, with our focus book ‘Owl Babies’, the children have created story maps, made owl nests using sticks in the construction area and acted out the story using props. In Maths this half term we have covered, sorting, matching, mass, capacity, size, comparing amounts and pattern. We have used scales to weigh different objects, continued repeating patterns as well as creating our own and sorted sweets into groups which we got to enjoy afterwards! We have also enjoyed doing the word rap, concept cat and phonics, where we support the learning with action songs which the children join in with. The children have had so much fun and learnt so much! Next term we look forward to learning all about ‘People who help us’ and ‘Winter festivals’. We can’t wait for next half term for more exciting learning, enjoy your break FS2! Parents, you can keep up to date on all our fun learning by following the FS2 Twitter page @HHA_EYFS.
