HIGH HAZELS LANTERN PARADE LIGHTS UP DARNALL

HIGH HAZELS LANTERN PARADE LIGHTS UP DARNALL

The streets of Darnall were alive with music, dance and light taken when High Hazels Academy staged the return of their annual lantern parade last week.

Held on Friday 5th November, the colourful event was also supported by Sheffield Park Academy, and provided the perfect opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their handiwork, parading their wonderful lanterns down Staniforth Road and up the main road.

Music for the event came care of Darnall Community Gospel Choir, and High Hazels youngest also sang, whilst the moves were provided by Sheffield Park's students with a contemporary dance routine.  The crowds were also entertained by stilt walkers and fire throwers from Innovation Entertainments, which ended the parade in style.

Commenting on the parade, High Hazels Academy’s Principal Mrs Asma Maqsood-Shah said:

“It’s a fantastic event and one which helps to bring the whole community together. The children also love having the opportunity to show off the wonderful lanterns they have made.”

Dunya news also attended the parade, the full interview can be found by clicking here

Its the end of Autumn 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Year 4 have made a great start to the year and we are proud of the way they have adapted to the school rules and routines. We have had a successful first half term full of fun, learning and creativity.

In our English lessons, we have planned both reading and writing meticulously to ensure children receive a deeper understanding of the text so that they can produce their own version. We have completed tongue twisters and instructions on how to make Lego models. Furthermore, children have loved ‘The Building Boy’ story and have been using it to make their own adventure story which will include both setting and character descriptions.

Its week 7 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Y4 had so much fun in art club this week. We all worked together to create this magnificent, chalk masterpiece. We used masking tape to segment our space and then used chalk to add colour. We are so proud of the results, it's a shame it will soon wash away!

Its week 6 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Its week 6 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

In science, Y4 have been thinking about animals and their habitats. We went into our local environment and observed animals in their habitats. We were amazed to find so many creepy crawlies like woodlice, spiders, worms, and snails. We noticed that they like dark, damp habitats where they are protected from predators and the elements.
