Its week 5 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

We are so excited that clubs have started this week. Miss Swain's explorers

have travelled to Africa to learn about giraffes. They have created some beautiful silhouette pictures using chalk. Miss Anderson's sports club have had lots of fun playing dodgeball and learning about good teamwork.  Finally, Miss Scrimgeour's artists have been getting creative with their rock paintings.

Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

In science we have been learning how to classify living things in different ways. This week, we have used Venn diagrams to sort leaves into groups. We then used a dichotomous key to compare leaves and identify them.  It was really interesting to look at the similarities and differences between leaves. We are looking forward to making our own dichotomous keys next week.

IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR MONDAY 4TH OCTOBER ONLY

Dear families,

We have been notified by Sheffield City Council that the footpath which runs between Staniforth Road and Fisher Lane will be closed on Monday 4th October for resurfacing. This will affect families walking along the path and some year groups who are allocated the EYFS gates, arriving to and leaving school on Monday 4th October. Please see the timetable below for some changes we have had to make for this day to ensure a safe and timely arrival and collection of children.

If you have any questions, then please contact the school office.

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Y4 are really enjoying our geography unit. We started by looking at an eight-point compass and then learnt about how lines of longitude and latitude can help us locate places in the world. As geographers, we were able to label key lines of longitude and latitude on a world map. Next week, we are looking forward to using atlases to look at the political and physical features of South America.

Arbor - New Management Information System

Dear Parents/Carers

Since we returned to school in September we are using a new management information system called Arbor.

The school will now the Arbor parent portal to send messages to parents, as well as letters and other school information.  Parents will now use the Arbor parent portal app to pay for dinners, milk, snack, uniform, trips and events.  Parents will also be able tp sign up for clubs and actitives in school, as parentmail and My ed will no longer be used by the school.

Arbor is a simple, smart and cloud-based MIS (Management Information System), which helps us work faster, smarter and more collaboratively as a school. The Arbor App and Parent Portal mean we can keep you informed about your child’s life at school in a much more accessible way.

Log into Arbor to see and update your child’s information, get live updates and make payments or bookings on the go!

The Parent Portal works on Google Chrome (computer or laptop) and you can download the Arbor App from the App Store or Google Play Store on your phone (Android 5.0; iOS 10.0 and upwards).

Please click here to watch a short clip about the Arbor Parent Portal App

How to get started:-

1. We have already sent parents a welcome email telling you Arbor is ready

2. Click the link in your welcome email to set up your password

3. Go to the App or Google Play Store on your phone and search ‘Arbor’

4. Click ‘Install’ on Android or ‘Get’ on iPhone then open the App

To safeguard student data in line with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Arbor only works directly with schools.

Y4 Swimming Information Every Tuesday

Dear Parent/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that children in Year 4 will be starting swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum on Tuesday 7th September 2021. Pupils will attend school as normal on Tuesdays and will travel, supervised by school staff, via coach to the Ponds Forge Leisure Centre each week. The swimming sessions will run for 18 weeks until Tuesday 25th January 2022 and will be taught by qualified swimming instructors. The sessions are fully funded by school, and as they are part of the curriculum, all children are expected to participate. If for any reason your child is unwell and unable to participate in a session, please speak to school staff.

For each lesson your child will need to come to school dressed in their swimwear (underneath their school uniform).

They will also need to bring the following:

  • A towel
  • A waterproof bag
  • A change of underwear

Please ensure you follow the guidance below:

  • Your child should not bring or wear any jewellery, including ear piercings. Taping over piercings is not acceptable and will mean your child cannot participate in a swimming session.
  • Long hair must be tied back.
  • The teacher will ensure any medication which has been shared with school is taken with the child’s group. If your child has a medical need such as asthma, this information has been shared with school and an inhaler has been provided.
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn each week. Please do not send your child in bikinis, shorts below the knee, heavy outdoor clothing or underwear.
  • If your child is required to wear a long sleeve top and leggings, these should be lightweight materials and worn underneath or on top of swimwear.
  • If your child requires goggles, these must be provided by you and you will need to inform your child’s class teacher prior to the first lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
