Its week 1 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Year 4 had an amazing day with Maker {Futures} on Tuesday. The pupils had so much fun making, inventing, exploring and problem solving - it was an experience we will remember for a long time. Some of our favourite activities were creating different circuits and developing our coding skills with robots.

It’s been an action-packed start to Spring 2 in Year 5! We were excited to have Makers Futures over to let our students get their hands into a vast amount of STEM activities. Combining science, technology, engineering and maths, students controlled robots, did DIY, created circuits, made monsters and much, much more

Its week 1 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have  started our new theme ‘On The Farm’. We have read the story called ‘Chicken Licken’ which has lots of farm animals in. The children have painted pictures of different farm animals in the creative area, acted out the story with the small world animals and built a barn for them in the construction area. In maths we have sorted animals into groups of size and matched animals to picture cards. We have also been talking about the weather as there has been lots of wind and rain! We can’t wait for next week where we will continue looking at different farm animals!

Its the end of Spring 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y2…………………….

Year 2 have had a great start to the Spring term where they have really settled back into school, making good progress with their learning.

Through our topic ‘The Great Fire of London, we have done lots of learning across different subjects. In History, we looked at how the fire started, why it burned uncontrollably for so long and the impact of the fire on the city of London. The children have really enjoyed learning about the fire and sharing their knowledge with each other. They are eager, enthusiastic historians!

In English, we have been using the text ‘Paddington’s Post’; this book is about a bear from Darkest Peru called Paddington who documents his new adventure in England through letters and postcards. We have explored the language used and used the fantastic, physical resources inside the book to support our learning of writing to inform. We wrote our own letters to inform.  During our Reading lessons, we have been reading a range of short texts and poems that we are learning to read fluently and then answering questions about the text.

In Phonics, we have been reviewing all our Set 2 and 3 sounds. We have been finding our sounds in words and practising reading our words quickly without sounding them out. We are now working hard to apply our phonics to spelling patterns.

In Maths, we have finished learning about addition and subtraction. We are now learning about money. Starting off by identifying the value of coins and notes; we are now learning to compare amounts of money and find totals using pounds and pence.

In Science, we are learning about the properties of everyday materials. We have been learning new vocabulary to describe the properties of materials, like malleable and absorbent. We conducted an experiment to see which items are absorbent. It was lots of fun!

In Art, we have been looking at George Seurat. We have been learning about the pointillism technique and practising using this skill in our own paintings. We are using George Seurat’s techniques to create our own final pieces.

In computing, we are learning all about internet safety. We are learning how to stay safe online and why it is important to do so.

The Year 2 team have really enjoyed teaching year 2 this half term. It has been a successful start to the new year, and we are all impressed with the year group’s enthusiasm for learning and determination to do their best.

Well done Year 2.

The Year 2 team.

Its the end of Spring 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Its the end of Spring 1 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

The first part of our Spring Term has shown the children building their key skills of independence, resilience, adaptability, confidence and perseverance - the Year 4 team could not be prouder.

During our Writing lessons, the children participated in many creative lessons. They became children story tellers, creating their own Stinky Men stories based on the fairy tale ‘The Gingerbread man.’ The children have explored many Arabian legend stories, based on our class book for this term: ‘A Hundred and One Arabian nights,’ writing their final piece by adapting the classic, Aladdin.

In Reading, we have looked at many stories from ‘A Hundred and One Arabian nights’ and focused on our skills of inference and sequencing. The children have really enjoyed this topic and it gets them excited for their upcoming History Unit, Early Islamic Civilisation.

In maths, children began to develop their knowledge of timetables and division facts, a unit which has been continued outside of school as they have also been practicing their timetables and completing in battles on TTRS between classes. Please encourage your child to log on to Times Tables Rockstars everyday to practice this key skill.
