Its week 4 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

On Wednesday, the whole school had a wonderful day celebrating British Science Week. Different activities were set up in each classroom and we enjoyed going round and exploring the challenges which included 'Can you make something that flies?', 'Can you make something that floats?' and 'Can you make a rainbow?'. The children were encouraged to investigate different solutions and had a fun day building their teamworking, problem solving and creative skills. If you want to continue the excitement at home, check out some of the activities on the Sway.

Leadership At High Hazels Academy

Leadership At High Hazels Academy

Dear Parents/Carers

Leadership at High Hazels Academy

We hope that everyone is enjoying the new term. Despite the ongoing challenges of Covid19, we are pleased that pupils are continuing at pace with their learning. After seven years as Headteacher of High Hazels Academy, Mrs Maqsood-Shah will be leaving the school at the end of the academic year. She has been appointed as Regional Director within a Primary Trust. This is not a decision she has taken lightly, and we will be very sorry to see her leave. She has been an excellent Headteacher for the school and, has been very successful in managing the challenges of Covid-19. Her dedication to the school and its community has been superb. I know that everyone in the school will wish her well for the future and thank her for the contribution she has made to the school’s success. She is, of course, fully committed to the school until the summer and is looking forward to a productive six months.

We will now begin a national recruitment exercise to appoint her successor. We hope to attract a strong field of candidates and to have our new Head in place for September. We will, of course, ensure a smooth transition between Mrs Maqsood-Shah and her successor so that there is no disruption to the strong progress underway at the school. Thank you for your continued support of the school during this very important time for catching up on any lost learning due to the Pandemic.

Best wishes

This week in nursery we have spent a long time outside exploring the outdoor area. We have been planting some seeds in the large planters and watering all the flowers we have planted. We are so excited to watch them grow! We have also been exploring the water area using the water wall, riding the bikes and playing throwing and catching games with our friends. Inside we have been drawing pictures of animals that live on a farm and decorating these pictures with a range of materials. On Wednesday we celebrated British Science Week, where we talked about what Science is and took part in activities. We particularly enjoyed the paint blowing where we used straws to blow paint across the paper which made lovely marks! We can’t wait for next week where we will start our new story ‘The Little Red Hen’.

Year two absolutely loved participating in British Science Week. They had to think like engineers and create structures. They also created rainbow bookmarks. Well done to our Scientists.

Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

Dear parents and carers,

In June, the Year 4s will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Here is some information about the assessment:

  • The assessment consists of 25 multiplication questions up to 12 x 12 e.g. 6 x 8 =
  • The questions will be weighted towards more challenging times tables (6, 7, 8, 9, 12).
  • Children will have 6 seconds to complete each question.
  • Children will have a 3 second gap in between questions.
  • The check will be taken on a computer or an I pad.
  • There is no pass mark.
  • The purpose of the check is to identify which children do not know their multiplication tables so they can receive support in Y5 and 6 before they leave school.
  • We will share your child’s score with you.
  • Children have been learning their times tables in school and practise daily.
  • We recommend that you support children to practise their times tables at home too, here are some useful resources.

I will share some further information and tips on how to support your child at home at a parent meeting on Thursday 17th of March at 2.30. If you have any questions, please attend the session, or speak to your child’s class teacher.

Kind regards,

Miss Scrimgeour

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y3…………………….

This week, Year 3 have been learning all about newspaper reports. We considered writing with a formal tone, adding detail for the reader, and including quotations to bring dimension to our writing. We planned our reports, practised reporting in the style of TV news and then wrote our own newspaper reports on the theme of fairy-tale crimes. Take a look!

The Date Project

The Date Project

The idea and concept was simple, to raise funds for the Al-Huda Bakery in Syria by selling a box of the finest Medjool dates for £10 during Ramadan.

Each box sold raised funds for fifty loaves of bread for a Syrian family. The Date Project is a initiative started and run by volunteers with 100% of profits going to charity.

In the first year of the project, 100,000 loaves of bread were distributed, and in 2016 a phenomenal 3.5 million loaves of bread were produced as a result of this initiative.

For Ramadan 2017, Palestine was added with a beautifully designed box in Palestinian colors being sold as the perfect gift nationwide.

We are supporting The Date Project by selling dates on our school yard next week for £10 per tin. These will be available to buy after school from the PTA members. For more information visit https://thedateproject.org

Science Dress Up Day 16th March

Science Dress Up Day 16th March

Dear parents and carers,

Next week we will be celebrating British Science Week. On Wednesday 16th March, we have planned a fun filled day so children can engage in a number of activities that build skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and enquiry. Please follow the Sway page if you would like some ideas on how to continue this learning at home. As part of the excitement, we are asking all children to dress up on Wednesday as something related to science. Again, please continue scrolling for costume ideas you can easily create at home.

If you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher.
