In Writing, Year 3 have been learning all about Fables. We read the story of 'The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing' and retold it using talk for writing. We created actions for the sinister, cunning wolf, lone shepherd and the oblivious sheep. After learning the story, we are excited to innovate it and write our very own descriptive fables!

In Science club, we made ‘Magic Milk’ by using food colouring and dish soap. We watched as the food colouring dispersed to make wonderful patterns. Also, we did some tinkering using paper, scissors, and glue to create our very own ‘Paper Cities’. It was so much fun!

It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to school after the Easter holidays. The children have enjoyed seeing their friends and telling everyone what they have done in the holiday. We have started our new theme ‘Once Upon a Time’ where we will be learning about fairy-tale stories. This week have started to read ‘The three little pigs’, the children have enjoyed listening to the story and sequencing the events that happen. They have built their own houses using bricks, sticks and straw! The children have then acted out the story with props, pretending the blow the houses down like the big bad wolf! It has been a busy week, we are excited for next week where we will welcome some new friends into nursery!

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y5…………………….

Year 5 have had a brilliant half term, through creating and building moving toys using cam mechanisms to researching exciting biographies about different survivors around the world. Everyone has worked really hard and we are very proud of you Y5!

Writing:

In Writing, we have been researching facts about survivors around the world and writing a recount about the famous Ernest Shackleton and his ship the Endeavour which has recently been found by explorers! We have used relative clauses and descriptive language to create atmosphere and tension in our recounts. We have also started to learn about the features of a biography and will be writing our own biographies about a survivor that we have researched.

Geography:

Our topic in Geography this half term has been rivers. We started by looking at the different parts of a river and learning the technical vocabulary for each part. Next, we discussed the different land uses around a river and what are the benefits and dangers of land close to a river.

DT:

This half term, children explored the world of mechanics, figuring out how to assembly a cam mechanism to create their own moving toys. From discussing the different type of cams to using problems solving skills and teamwork to assembly a working cam and troubleshoot when it didn’t work the first time. We also took part in a STEM workshop where we could be independent learner and discover all kinds of things from woodwork to engineering and coding.

Maths:

In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We have covered many topics from adding and subtracting fractions to finding fractions of amount and converting improper fractions into mixed numbers and back again!

After-school Clubs:

The children have really loved being part of the after-school clubs available to them. We have had some very excited children for Craft club, choir, and sport club. Choir have done some spectacular performances in assemblies to the rest of the school and we are looking forward to our trip to Sheffield Utilita Arena in the first week back to perform again. We look forward to seeing all of our student back for more clubs after the holidays.

The Year 5 team have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Year 5 this half term and it has been wonderful to see so many children dedicated and excited for their learning and making good progress.

We look forward to welcoming all children back after half term to enjoy another 6 weeks of new learning and experiences.

See you soon,

Year 5 Team.

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Nursery…………………….

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Nursery…………………….

What a busy, fun filled half term we have had in nursery! We have been learning all about animals as our theme was ‘On the Farm’. We have made lots of farm animals using a range of different materials including junk modelling, painting, drawing and collaging. In maths we have sorted animals into groups of size, matched animals to picture cards, sang number songs using the props. This helped us practice counting to 5 and taking numbers away.  During this half term we celebrated world book day- twisted fairy tales. We dressed up as characters from different stories, read lots of fairy tale stories and took part in lots of story themed activities. It was also British Science Week, where we talked about what Science is and took part in activities. We particularly enjoyed the paint blowing where we used straws to blow paint across the paper which made lovely marks! We have also been talking about the weather as we started the term in Winter and moved into Spring. The children talked about how they didn’t need their hats and scarves anymore as it was getting warmer. We looked at different signs of Spring and spotted them in the garden, the children could see buds on flowers, daffodils and the sun shining. We also looked at lambs, chicks and even had our own caterpillars! We were so happy to have them to look after and watch them grow into butterflies! As the weather got warmer, we enjoyed exploring in our outdoor area using the water wall to transport water in different containers, made mud pie in the mud kitchen, rode the bikes around the track, went on mini beast hunts, completed the obstacle courses and role played with the small world animals. We have talked about caring for living things and looking after the natural environment. The children have been watering the flowers every day to help them grow. We also planted some seeds in the large planters and talked about how they will grow. Towards the end of the term, we read the story ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children learnt a lesson from the story about helping others and being kind to each other. Throughout this term we have done lots of circle times about being kind to each other, sharing and looking after our nursery. We are so excited for next term where we will have new friends to play with at nursery and start our new learning on fairy-tale stories! Don’t forget to ask us about our learning at home!
