Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Its the end of Spring 2 term 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

Our Spring Term has shown the children building their key skills of independence, resilience, adaptability, confidence and perseverance - the Year 4 team could not be prouder. Highlights from this half term are the STEAM workshop and British Science Day. The children really enjoyed these activities and developed their scientific skills.

This term we invited the University of Sheffield Makers Project to do a workshop with our children. They played with robots, all sorts of different technologies and made lots of new things. The children could not stop smiling at the end of the end of the day! Through the Maker Cycle, the children helped to find problems, think about how to solve them, make rapid prototypes and to test them.

Back in the classroom, the children have participated in many creative lessons in Writing. They became mini-David Attenborough's, creating their own voiceover script based on his work on TV. The children have explored many wildlife videos and had ago at writing their final piece about a child’s experience on the playground.  What creative writers we have!

In Reading, we have looked at many stories from around the world, including The Great Kapok tree and focused on our skills of inference and sequencing. The children have really enjoyed this test and cannot wait to use it in their upcoming pieces of writing set in a rainforest.

In maths, children began to develop their knowledge of fractions. This week they have been tackling fractions of amounts using bar models. The children have done ever so well at this and should be extremely proud of the progress they have been making. Please encourage your child to log on to Times Tables Rockstars every day to practice this key skill.

The children have begun exploring new topics in Art and Science. In Art, they have been learning about Vincent van Gogh and are working towards recreating his famous ‘Starry Night’ painting. In science, children have started learning about sound and how sounds travel. We also did a whole day of science learning earlier in the term, where children explored different scientific questions, such as ‘Can you make something that floats?’

In History, the children have been learning about the Early Islamic Empire through the lens of Quest for Knowledge and Community and Family.  They have explored where the Early Islamic Empire was in the world and what significant contributions this civilisation has offered the world. The children found this extremely interesting and really loved their lessons.

The Year 4 team continue to be impressed, inspired and motivated by the children. We are looking forward to an exciting, learning-filled summer 1 term.

See you soon,

Year 4.

Its week 5 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

Its week 5 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week in nursery we have been reading our new story ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children have learnt a lesson from the story about helping others and being kind to each other. They have been painting pictures of the little red hen in the creative area and drawing pictures of other characters from the story in the writing area. Now that we have come into spring we have been talking about signs of Spring and spotting these signs outside. We have talked about caring for living things and looking after the natural environment. The children have been watering the flowers everyday to help them grow. It has been a busy week of playing and exploring in the indoor and outdoor environment!  Next week will be our final week learning about farm animals before the Easter holidays

Year 3 have loved their enrichment clubs this half term and we have had a strong focus on DT based activities. In Sewing club, pupils designed and made little animal finger puppets using a running stitch and applique technique to add detail to their creations. Check out their incredible final products!

The aim of the workshop is to allow you to explore and develop your understanding of the different aspects of early year’s maths by accessing fun, play based activities with your child.
