Its week 6 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

In science, Y4 have been thinking about animals and their habitats. We went into our local environment and observed animals in their habitats. We were amazed to find so many creepy crawlies like woodlice, spiders, worms, and snails. We noticed that they like dark, damp habitats where they are protected from predators and the elements.

This week in art, Year 6 have been beginning to explore L.S. Lowry’s mark making techniques and the effect that these have had on his work. We then began to practice out own mark making, looking at the different textures and shades that mark making techniques can create.

This week, Year 3 let their imaginations run wild by letting music make creative, magical and enchanting pictures in their heads. They then wrote about what they could see using expanded noun phrases and sentences which included their senses. Well done!

We created our own narratives using ‘Show Don’t Tell’ to help the reader visualise the story and to build tension. We took inspiration from a short film called Catch a Lot. It’s always a pleasure to hear the students read their own stories to their classmates.

This week in nursery we have been focussing on the story ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’. We have enjoyed retelling and acting out the story using the props from the story sack! We have also been learning about Autumn, we went for a walk outside and looked for signs of Autumn and  found lots of leaves which we have used to make beautiful autumnal pictures! We have also been mark making with autumnal coloured paint outside on different materials. We are looking forward to starting our new story next week ‘We’re going on a bear hunt.’

Y5 have been doing dance this term and this week the students have been making shapes as a group. This was Alexandrite’s wonderful attempt of an arrow.

We are so excited that clubs have started this week. Miss Swain's explorers

have travelled to Africa to learn about giraffes. They have created some beautiful silhouette pictures using chalk. Miss Anderson's sports club have had lots of fun playing dodgeball and learning about good teamwork.  Finally, Miss Scrimgeour's artists have been getting creative with their rock paintings.

In science we have been learning how to classify living things in different ways. This week, we have used Venn diagrams to sort leaves into groups. We then used a dichotomous key to compare leaves and identify them.  It was really interesting to look at the similarities and differences between leaves. We are looking forward to making our own dichotomous keys next week.

This week in nursery we have been reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We have been sorting the compare bears on the maths table into groups of colour and size, acting out the story with props in the reading area and making bear masks in the creative area! We also have been on an Autumn hunt in our outdoor area searching for signs of Autumn. We found lots of different coloured leaves that had fell off the trees and put them in our investigation area. We can’t wait for next week when we will be using the leaves to make Autumn leaf pictures!
