Its week 3 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

In our DT units we have been learning how to make pop up books. We started by looking at some good examples and the kind of mechanisms used in them. After that, we started to build our making skills by trying out the different mechanisms.  We love how these features can bring a book to life - we can't wait to make our own.

Year 6 Fun Run

Year 6 Fun Run

Dear Parents/Carers

We are delighted to let you know that Year 6 will be taking part in a Fun Run at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. This is sure to be a wonderful morning for all and is a fantastic opportunity for your child to learn new skills, challenge themselves and have fun with their friends.

The Fun Run event will take place on Thursday 19th May 2022. The children will be participating in a run around the Olympic Legacy Park, competing against other schools.

This event will be run by qualified instructors (from Sport Links Sheffield) and High Hazels staff will be there to support throughout the morning.

Please ensure that your child wears an appropriate PE kit and trainers for this session.

There is no cost for this trip. We shall leave school after the register and walk to the event. We will return by lunchtime so your child can have their packed lunch or school dinner as normal.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or Mr. Sexton.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr. Sexton

This week's cookery class was a huge hit. Students made quesadillas, containing onions, tomatoes and peppers. We discussed how vitamin-rich peppers are and students were able to take their lovely food and recipe cards home. What a great afternoon Y5

Y2 SATS

Dear Parent/Carer

Year 2 SATS

Over the next few weeks, pupils in Year 2 will be completing the end of Key Stage One tests. The tests will commence on Monday 16th May and continue throughout the month.

It is vital that all pupils are in school every day to ensure they complete these assessments to the best of their abilities.

Pupils will sit 4 assessments: Reading Paper 1, Reading Paper 2, Maths Reasoning, and Maths Arithmetic.

The tests will be completed in small groups with a familiar adult. Children are aware that they will be having quizzes in the next few weeks, but we have been careful not to make them anxious about their SATs tests as teacher assessment is also used to inform final outcomes.

If you or your child have any concerns, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher. Parents and carers will receive KS1 assessment results as part of the end of year reports in July.

To ensure that your child is ready for their assessments, we recommend the following:

- get lots of sleep

- eat a healthy breakfast to set them up for the day

- read with an adult every day

- complete any homework provided

- attend school on time every day

If you have any questions about KS1 assessments, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher or a member of SLT on the gate in the morning or afternoon.

Thank you for your support, we greatly appreciate it.

Kind regards

Enrichment clubs have begun in full flow this term, and Year 3 have been enjoying them all thoroughly. This week in Origami Club, pupils made little dogs with a cute, animated face to give it some character. We are excited to make Origami flowers, boats, ice-cream and even Pokémon over the next few weeks!

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

Dear Parents,

Update on Leadership at High Hazels Academy

We wanted to update you on progress with appointing a successor to Mrs Maqsood-Shah as Principal of the academy.

The recruitment process is, unfortunately, taking longer than we had hoped as we are very keen to choose a candidate with the appropriate mix of skills and experience to suit the school and its community.

Whilst we continue with the process, Mr Paul Graham, who is Principal of our Abbey Hey Primary Academy in Gorton, Manchester and knows High Hazels well, will be working with the Senior Leadership Team to support the successful running of the school. Mr Graham is a highly experienced headteacher and is looking forward to spending time at High Hazels. He will be liaising with Mrs Maqsood-Shah and the Vice Principals this term so that he is fully involved with the planning for the next academic year.

We will update you on the recruitment process for a permanent Principal when a successful appointment is made.

Yours sincerely

Tanya Hughes

Eid Parties & Non Uniform Day - Friday 6th May

Eid Parties & Non Uniform Day - Friday 6th May

Dear Parents/Carers

I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to all our families who will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

As a whole school, we will be having Eid parties on Friday, 6th May 2022.  As done previously, we are asking parents/carers for a £1 contribution per child to be brought into class.  The money will be used to purchase party food and drink for all the children.

Please note that the 6th May will also be a non-uniform day for all the children.

As always, if your child has any allergies then please ensure their medical records are up to date in the office.

Thank you for your continued support

Mrs A Maqsood-Shah

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in Y4…………………….

This term we have started learning about decimals in maths. Y4 developed their understanding of tenths using a place value grid. We love maths and enjoyed answering all sorts of questions to challenge ourselves. It was really fun using counters to systematically find all the answers to our problem solving question. Have a look at our amazing work 🤓.

Its week 2 😊 Let’s see what’s been happening in nursery…………………….

This week we have welcomed new friends into nursery and helped them settle in by showing them all our toys and playing with them. We have continued to read ‘The three little pigs’ story and sequence the story using props. We have also been making pig masks in the creative area, collaging, and drawing other characters from the story. The children have enjoyed playing and learning in our outdoor area going on mini beast hunts, cooking in the mud kitchen, playing ball games and riding our brand new bikes and scooters! We can’t wait for next week where we will start our new story ‘Little Red Riding hood’.
